How has your week been? Mine has been full of temperatures in the 90's. I love when the temps start dropping, giving everyone an emotional lift!
Dave and I are considering kayaking. Anyone have tips?
Wedding planning is moving along. I hope next week I'll be able to post a date and place :)

Have a great week, friends! Back to the playoffs.

Nice day here, too. I haven't actually looked at the temps, but it's cool and not raining, so score. We turned on our gas fire for a little while yesterday during school time, which was cozy and fun. I love this time of year.
Angie, my brother went to the Olympic trials in canoeing in the 1990s and still does a lot of paddling, competitive and recreational, in both canoes and kayaks. Here's his web page -- you might find something of use or interest among his links and articles. He's taught all my kids quite a bit about paddling over the years. I've done a fair amount of canoeing, but to date have never paddled a kayak!
My blog this week: rabbit trails, religion, poetry, and more poetry. And some lesson plans.
A decent week, school-wise, with better attitudes and signs of progress. Also, our Irish-dance teacher just started a class in our parish, so I don't have to drive an hour round-trip this afternoon for class! Score again.
Trying to get ourselves together for a friend's wedding on the 20th. Suddenly my husband needs a suit! In fact, all of us need something suitable to wear. *sigh*. But I sure am grateful for all the clothes talk lately.
That's about it for me, I guess.
Sally

We're actually warming up a bit here.. which isn't bad.. now we're getting highs in the low 70's and lows in the upper 20's.. last week was pretty chill with lows in the teens and highs in the 60's.. days are nice, evenings have a bit of a chill.. with the days getting into the 70's we've tipped back up being too warm for a fire in the wood stove though.
Working on a grocery list (new sales ads come out on Wednesdays).. trying to get my pantry all stocked up for winter.. so helpful when I can do that successfully. Now if the hunters could be be successful. They have one more evening for my son to try and get a deer. Then dh has elk tags (in Nov I think).. so we'll see. But my freezer is cleaned out
Got my nephews for a while off and on.. my mom and sister are off on a cruise to Hawaii (lucky ducks) so the boys are here when my BIL is at work. Keeping me on my toes around here to try and get things done with a more strict schedule than I typically have.
Oh, I don't think I mentioned I got a new chair in my living room. Short on space anyway and I've avoided putting a chair semi-in front of a bookcase to keep it from being knocked into by the rocking and reclining chairs.. well this chair is a simple smallish wingback chair in a dark green which looks great with the somewhat autumn colors I use in my living room. And since it doesn't rock or recline I can use it in the one space I have.. of course I have no clue what we'll do when we need space for a Christmas tree

This is the week we take the plunge into winter. By the end of the week we will have dipped down below freezing for good, not to see warm temps again until...oh, April, maybe? I think/hope/pray we are prepared!
School is going so very well. We are getting a lot done and enjoying it all (ok, well MOST of it, anyway). We've had art projects, science experiments, history projects...just all kinds of good stuff to mix in with the more ordinary, making for a very satisfying day.

Our temps really dropped this weekend. I'm glad; more incentive to cook healthy meals AT HOME; we need to cut expenses! Walking while Dancing Daughter teaches is going well and I find myself looking forward to being outdoors.
School...still trying to balance dance and school...it's not easy.
Dancing Daughter had a great weekend; she did very well at her dance competition in Pittburgh, placing 6th in both of her dance events. Even better, one of the judges ranked her #1 in her hard shoe dance and another ranked her #2 in her soft shoe dance, which has really boosted her self-confidence!
#1 Son has actually been filling out internship applications, too. There's hope! (Now I have to get him to vote - very critical this year.)

CRAZINESS here! My baby shower is on Saturday and some pettiness and selfishness has made it a difficult time for me. I mean come on its my own shower, you'd think I would not have to order my own cake!!!!
Does that sound selfish myself? I did not WANT a shower for my 5th kid but friends begged me to have one and now, AUGH! Just drama that I cannot believe!
Anyways, onto better things, the girls decided they wanted to be costumes that required tulle skirts so I went and bought the tulle and they made them themselves. So happy! I only have 2 costumes left, a Dalmatian puppy and Robin Hood:)
Just got my new jewelry line for Christmas and loving it! VERY hot temps have made any of the typical "Fall" things a no go. Its been in the 90's with no end in sight. We were supposed to go to the Fall festival this Saturday night but my kids will hate being outside in the heat, so we'll play it by ear.
Could use some prayers since I need someone to watch the kids next Friday while both my husband and I work. Hubby is working a DUI checkpoint at night and since he is only required to work 2 a year, no way out of it and I have a HUGE show booked. Please say a prayer I find someone willing to watch the kids.
You are all in my thoughts! Have a wonderful week!

Wrapping up Wednesday here.
A lot of challenges for me this week, but the end is in sight!
I'm loving the fall weather, and I was especially blessed to drive up into the George Washington Nation Forest in Virginia a few days ago. What glorious leaves! The fall colors are really starting to appear up at that altitude and it was so beautiful. God has created such glory for our enjoyment!
FINALLY, got caught up after traveling over the weekend. It takes me all week sometimes!
AND my blueberry plants arrived today and I already have them planted---hurray! Plus, I planted some thyme up here in Delaware and a tarragon plant.
Definitely looking forward to quiet and productive weekend coming up. I am hoping to make marshmallows from real marshmallow root powder...should be interesting!

Well, it is snowing here. Actually this is the third time this month that it has snowed. Seeing that it is only the second week of Oct. that is saying something.
Life is a bit hectic here. My dh is doing very well from having his teeth out last week. It's amazing how much you can eat without teeth.
The news this week, though, is that my ds got hit fairly hard playing football on Sun. He was having some worrying symptoms so I took him to the dr. today. Ds doesn't have enough symptoms to call it concussion but the dr. is concerned about the headaches and nausea so ds cannot play football until he has been symptom free for 2 days. I feel better now.
Oh! and we had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend(we live in Canada.) It was a nice, quiet time for our family. We played games (Dutch Blitz,) ate good food (pumpkin monkey bread, pumpkin pie, of course,) watched football and read good books (Murder on the Orient Express.) It was a nice time of just 'being.'

It has been lovely here again this week - very fall-ish in the 60s and 70s which is nice after our first snow last Thursday!
I have spent the week thinking of the lovely mother of the groom dresses I need to shop for ever since Angie mentioned it last week... Angie, we need to shop together - I am so not thinking I can do this. And we need Mimi as a fashion consultant for this, I do believe.
We had our family photo taken this week for the church directory. Weird to only have half our kids in the "family" photo.
Speaking of my away kids, my mom called because an aunt thought she saw my son while watching EWTN. It turns out she did - we found out he came in briefly to one of the Franciscan Presents episodes he was filming.
~Praying for your son, Julia.
~Hope your baby shower goes well, Mimi, and is a joy for you despite the craziness of having to get your own cake... - wish I lived close enough to come (or to offer my daughter for babysitting services )
~Nancy, have I ever mentioned that my soon-to-be daughter-in-law is an Irish dancer? I anticipate having Irish dancing grandchildren someday
~Theresa, I'm still getting used to you being back in Alaska, hunkering in for the winter.
~Jodie, I think of home when I hear how the weather is changing there.
~Angie and Sally, enjoyed your blog posts.

Trying to re-establish some sort of routine here. Celebrated dd's 11th birthday, ds' 15 & 17 have been tag teaming as builders labourers with a hsing Dad and having to work their lessons around that (sort of happens )
Currently have no roof on our dining room as extension work continues at a good pace. We've been putting trusses into place, and praying it didn't rain. well at 3am yesterday we were in the rain moving furniture and placing tarps strategcially. Then when it was daylight they were out in the rain placing tarps over the trussses, today the wind has picked up and it is freezing in certain parts of the house. Anyohow we're screwing down the iron tomorrow so hoping the wind drops.
Have begun planning a little more for lessons and my lost enthusiasm is picking up there kind of a journey I've been on, I shared this in a recentpost For years I used to over plan, investing hours which seemed wasted as our plans always changed. In an effort to change this situation I became more relaxed and let my planning go, we had a broad structure but not finer details. However I've come the the realisation that planning created & fed my enthusiasm so it wasn't wasted, it just translated differently. During the past couple of years whilst I haven't overplanned I also haven't been enthused often. So that's where my thoughts and energies are at present.

We are currently in the middle of a cold snap, which is quite unusual.
Last week it was 34c and we were getting ready for swimming weather, now its pouring and we want to getthe fire wood from the shed.
Mext week the forecast says its back to 30c pls again.
There is snow about 2 hours from us on the mountain tops and its snowing about 3 hours south, where there has been a catholic homeschool camping camp.
I have a sick dd getting over a flu, so we are just doing minimum and letting her sleep and recover, so hoping next week we will be full swing..
Ange.. my dh is looking into kayaks as well. He wants to get back into it.

We can't believe it is snowing in summer!!! Apparently 1 in 100 year weather. The winds are coming straight off the Great Dividing Range near us and with no roof in the dining room we are freezing!

It is in the dining room and surrounds. I keep worrying the tarp will rip in the winds. We took the temporary (had for nearly 2 yrs) dining room roof off a couple of weekends ago to replace with trusses. Talking about the flat roof at the bottom of this post. Of course it took this long to get up trusses and this weekend we'll begin sheeting with iron. Just wrote up a new building plan and have jobs for every weekend from now into January 2014
