Record breaking 115 degrees here. Can you top that?
I'm late starting the Wednesday Shout Out because I just got back from a long weekend visit to my hometown of Scranton PA! So, in my mind, today was Monday .
So that's pretty much it since last we connected . I had a great trip and am happy to be home. I haven't posted a new blog post, so no update there. I hope to soon, about the trip.
We'll be back to school full speed starting Monday .
And you?
(As always, chime in anytime )
Love,

Our start to school three weeks ago is going VERY SLOW!! We went on vacation over the weekend. Boys went on a fishing trip with the grandparents and Dh and I got away to our favorite B&B. I really didn't have a good time. I got lots of reading done and alone time and that was great and much needed. Time with dh was barely ok. I think my dh forgot how to take a woman out on a date. Oh well!

It's been a crazy week, prepping to move my son to college this Friday. Adding to the stress is the loss of one freelance writing job and the potential loss of my main writing job. I'm working on these issues, but it's not the best time to have all this stuff happen.
On the good side, we got his car fixed on time, and our dear friend is set to tow that car to Indiana. It's hard to complain when we're blessed with friends like him!

In the middle of my training in Charlotte Mason methods, and it is intense! All day sessions, but I'm learning a lot which I hope I will find the time to share with everyone. Had an oh-so-wonderful dinner last night with MaryM...so great to meet her IRL!!!
I managed to give myself giant blisters on my heels walking to Mass on Tuesday, so I've got something to offer up! Amazing how God can make something wonderful even out of my own stupidity!
Now I'm working on an article I promised to write that is due next week, and I'm trying to avoid my blank piece of paper by posting here, Angie.
Prayers for all of the 4Real families!

I just poisoned my children - misread the ingredients on an ice cream and gave it to my egg allergic children. Luckily all is well now! Still **kicking myself**. When I told myself this morning "life is short, let's get ice cream" I didn't want to mean it literally!!
DD had oral surgery this morning and is doing well too (well, until I fed her egg )
Hugs to you Nancy about sending DS to college this week and the potential job loss.
My mom is doing poorly (as I wrote in the prayer forum so I won't get into here). Sudden and strange.
School is going well - even my 4yo is into it. It's a lot of separate work for everyone instead of working together, but it seems to be good for all of us!
Time to put the munchkin to bed.

It was great to see you Sunday, Angie!! You have us beat back here in PA. Just in the 80's. Not too bad.
We are kicking off our school year with a field trip to a butterfly garden on Friday. And possibly going to the Cloisters in NY for another early field trip next week.

Caroline, I'm really hoping to hear more about this from you soon! Are you doing an Ambleside schools 3 day training? The original one in Fredericksburg, TX is only an hour from us and so tempting to visit and receive training. Hope all is going well! So nice you got to have an IRL 4real meet up!

Yes, that was the highlight of my week - meeting Caroline in person for a lovely dinner. What a treat! Denver is a great place to visit, you all - hint hint...
Angie, it is hot here too, but only 90's so we can't compete with you and I'm happy to keep it that way!
This week we are just enjoying our time with our 21 year old son before he leaves again for college. He just got back this weekend from a month in India on pilgrimage and working the the MC sisters and brothers in Calcutta.

True story: I attended St. Ann's Basilica with my extended family, flanked by 2 of my goddaughters. At the sign of peace, I turned around and BAM, there was Mary Ann! I fought back my tears .
Anyone else meet IRL this week?
Love,

I love St. Anne's in Scranton! I haven't been there for a long time...my grandparents are buried there.
I would love to have you teach me, Caroline! Sometimes life gets so overwhelming, I forget what works and get myself freaked out. I need a refresher SO bad.
What are the Cloisters in NY Mary Ann??

Donna Marie, that's my parish! Even though we live out in the country, we always drive into Scranton to go to Mass there. I love it!

They are part of the Metropolitan Museum in northern Manhattan, Ft Tryon Park. They have lots of medieval religious and secular art and tapestries. It would be a great start to our Middle Ages studies this year!

So, technically maybe not, but when we got in our van about 4:00 this afternoon the car temp said 116 deg. My kids were pretty shocked to see that high number. Mid day we drove about 25 miles towards the Valley, to my dh's aunts pool today and normally it is at least 10-15 degrees hotter there than where we live. The kids enjoyed a little cool down splashing time and dh got in a nap. We're planning another beach trip this Friday to help with the heat
Caroline, I'm so excited to hear about your CM time; I'm sure you'll share what you can How amazing it must be for you
I'm still working on my sweater shrug and really enjoying all the responses to my yarn question. I need to get to a local yarn shop!!!
My count down continues and we should start our new school year next week I'm just finishing binding our notebooks this week.
BTW, my used book store run last Friday was awesome. I came home with 34 new books!!! I showed alot of restraint ; my two friends ended up with at least 60 books each.
Keep cool this week

My boys are in day camp. It's all about nature, so they've been jotting in their nature journals most days.
My girls and I are going to meet with some other homeschool families so that we can see the Classically Catholic Memory materials in person. We were just able to work out the details on Monday to hold the co-op at our local parish!!
Hoping to meet up with a new homeschool mom. Her son is the same age as my oldest and she is feeling overwhelmed.
The first thing I need to do, though, is get groceries. I just cannot push it off one more day!

I'm at my mom's with husband and all the kids -- this is our last big hurrah together before our oldest daughter goes back to college week after next. Both big kids have gotten together with old friends, which has been fun, and we've spent time with both our mothers, also good.
Mom still hasn't had any substantive nibbles on her house, despite a fairly successful open house last Sunday. This week we're not talking that much about her move, though she has been pulling out more things to send back with us.
Watching the Olympics has been fun -- we hadn't been doing that at home. I particularly love the track events, so it's been fun to watch a lot of that.
My brother took my 14, 10, and 8yos to kayak in the harbor last night, which they all enjoyed. Going at some point to see an exhibit of my sister-in-law's paintings which opened last weekend at a local theater. I've seen most of them on Facebook -- she was traveling in Greece and Turkey earlier in the summer, painting and posting her work on line as she finished each piece -- but am looking forward to seeing the real thing.
Overall, kind of a neither-here-nor-there week. My 14yo and I were here just here two weeks ago, and I kind of feel as though we never left! Meanwhile, at home, I *hope* the weather has been dry enough for the masonry work on our front porch rebuild to get done. I'm thinking we'll call the builder today to see how it's going -- we haven't touched base in a couple of days. We would not normally be away with something of this magnitude happening to our house, but the builder's a friend of several years' standing (we saw him baptized and received into the Church four Easters ago!), and we trust him pretty absolutely. Still . . . I'm a little anxious to know what's gotten done this week.
I'm continuing to fine-tune school plans: the 14yo will start back next week, while the two youngest have one more round of day camp, and then they'll start the following week, when the college girly also goes back. Next week I'll be buying books at last! We have most of what we need for the new year, but there's always something . . . I am veryveryveryveryvery ready to be back in the swing of things.
So, that's our week! Happy Wednesday to everyone!
Sally

A girlfriend from Florida is here visiting for 2 weeks. We are taking off for a little bike tour of the countryside and maybe stop by a cafe along the way... Dd1 is at her babysitting job and took dd4 with her to help with the 2 little boys. The 2 other girls are riding part of the way with us on their bikes and meeting up with another family to play olympic dressage sport with their 2 children. We don't have horses, but they play as if...
("It's the BEST!")
We just ate swedish meatballs for lunch which we had brought back from our vacation in Sweden. YUM YUM
I am planning a daytrip to Cologne with my girlfriend for next week... really looking forward to that one!
Jen, many Blessings for your sister and her husband on their wedding day

Hot here too... for here. Actually not too horribly hot.. mid 90's.. but hotter than it's been so it feels pretty warm to us right now. At least it's still cooling off at night.
Got some kids doing the required end of the year testing today and tomorrow. They'll mostly do just fine but one is really struggling with reading and is testing.. almost done and then we have to wait on the results..
I've finally connected with the other homeschool group in the area.. we've heard about each other, back and forth, but no one ever really connected and I met one of the ladies at swim lessons this year and we managed to exchange info and so hopefully we'll all be able to work together. There's not that many of us. Though it might still be nice to get together with my old group that was down to just Catholics.. and it looks like we'll have FOUR families.. a huge number when you consider our area and that with those families there's about 25 kids.
We're looking at adding onto our house.. right now I'm trying to clear out the house and garage a bit so we'll be able to have people come through the rooms, it's gotten rather cluttered and messy with this last pregnancy and new baby and then swim team.. I'm finally able to really work on it. And in the meantime I'm trying to picture in my head more precisely what I want so that when I talk to people I can be clear.

We've had a pretty mild summer especially compared to last year. I can't complain even if it's been in the 100s this week. By this time last year we had close to 100 consecutive 100 degree days.
The new year is approaching. Ballet has already started for my girls although for my oldest dd, it never really stopped. I'm still working on plans. I'm having trouble getting going on them. But, as I want to start the new year next Monday, I guess I'd better get the first few weeks planned out.
