Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So what resources or materials have you found or are you using to help your children prepare for the changes of wording at Mass?

I've seen these two on-line? Has anyone used either?

Celebrating the Mass Lesson Plans - Catholic Toolbox

I haven't seen either of the resources mentioned above. I have seen a couple of books:

The Mass Book for Children
This book is very basic, mostly a summary of the parts/order of the Mass. It does include a few of the actual words and would be nice for young children (maybe 4-5 year olds?). It's not so lengthy that their attention waivers and has lots of pictures. I would say, however, that if you have another Mass book you might not want to buy this one just for the few altered words...unless you have a child who loves to hold something.

The Mass Explained for Kids
I think that this is a great little book and you can't beat the price! You don't have to take my word for it (I sound like a book reviewer on Reading Rainbow.    ) The link I posted shows the actual pages of the book. I like that it has the Mass on the left and explanations on the right.

There are some nice videos here that you can download about the changes. They don't discuss specifics but explain why there is a new translation. I found them helpful.

Continuing the serial posting...

For those that want to take an in-depth rabbit trail, the Diocese of Lansing has detailed lesson plans.

You can find the whole Roman Missal online.

I was skimming through and just thrilled to read the new version of the Exultet for the Easter Vigil. The bees have returned!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:
On this, your night of grace, O holy Father,
accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
an evening sacrifice of praise,
this gift from your most holy Church

I am so doing the happy dance!

He is cute, isn't he? There are lots of emoticon images out there. I found this one http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/115.gif and just added it as an image. And I realize I was only quoting the "Shorter form". There are two references to the bees in the longer form:

Quote:
On this, your night of grace, O holy Father,
accept this candle, a solemn offering,
the work of bees and of your servants’ hands,
an evening sacrifice of praise,
this gift from your most holy Church.

But now we know the praises of this pillar,
which glowing fire ignites for God’s honor,
a fire into many flames divided,
yet never dimmed by sharing of its light,
for it is fed by melting wax,
drawn out by mother bees
to build a torch so precious.

One thought I was thinking of incorporating the new Advent collects for each Sunday for our Advent wreath. Right now I use some form from the older Vatican II missals:

1st Sunday of Advent:

Grant your faithful, we pray, almighty God,
the resolve to run forth to meet your Christ
with righteous deeds at his coming,
so that, gathered at his right hand,
they may be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

2nd Sunday of Advent:

Almighty and merciful God,
may no earthly undertaking hinder those
who set out in haste to meet your Son,
but may our learning of heavenly wisdom
gain us admittance to his company.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

3rd Sunday of Advent:

O God, who see how your people
faithfully await the feast of the Lord’s Nativity,
enable us, we pray,
to attain the joys of so great a salvation
and to celebrate them always
with solemn worship and glad rejoicing.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Pour forth, we beseech you, O Lord,
your grace into our hearts,
that we, to whom the Incarnation of Christ your Son
was made known by the message of an Angel,
may by his Passion and Cross
be brought to the glory of his Resurrection.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

RECOGNIZE THIS ONE???? From the Angelus!!!!

Isn't the image of running out to meet Our Lord so very wonderful?

I can't imagine Heaven in any other way...released from Purgatory or from our earthly lives, we run run run to meet Him!

And, for the first time in a long while, we will be HOME for the first Sunday of Advent. All of these beautiful words and the images they create in our minds and hearts will become part of our Advent journey.

(I can't wait...can you tell?)

Me, too, Nancy. And I think these prayers will speak to the children, too.

I just shared this over on the other thread about new mass resources, but wanted to put it here, too. I just designed a printable booklet for kids with the new mass responses. It's free to print here!

Enjoy!

Even though Australia has had the New Mass since Penecost, this Advent will the first for us too, so looking forward to it with much joy!

EWTN had a very late night 30min (I think) segment on the New Mass, around Penecost in Australia, it was really, really excellent, I highly recommend it, if it airs for most of you.

I just took a quick peek at your EWTN specials for this month and noticed that this Sunday (13th) Colin Donovan and the EWTN theology staff will be discussing the New Mass. (Part 2)

The latest update on the Universalis on our iphones has the New Mass translation, which I am using along with the normal Mass readings.

We are finally becoming more automatic with many of the main responses after all this time, there are less old responses being heard in the congregation and more of the new in strong unison. Unless you have the New Mass translation in front of you, mistakes are just so easily made. I stumble still here and there, but my automatic responses are becoming better, "And with Your Spirit"   "It is right and just" and it is just so lovely to say the Centurion's words before Holy Communion.

I'm excited to hear about the !!!!

This Sunday, I stopped into the little boutique at the church to pick up a new Sunday missal. And right beside it was the "2012 Sunday Missal for Young Catholics".

I picked it up for my dd12, although she wasn't with. Well, dd8 has laid claim to it. She sat through mass with a smile. She participated eagerly, and whispered several times "This is FUN." The first 31 pages is the layout of the mass on one side, shows what the priest will say, and what the responses are. On the other side, it explains some of the more difficult words, or parts of the ceremony. The rest of the book is the weekly readings. I have never had her sit so peacefully through the mass.

So it looks like I'll be picking up a second one for the older child, as they aren't so great at sharing, and i don't want to referee in Mass.

Now this isn't something new, but to me it was, so perhaps to some one else as well.
