Recently we watched Come To The Stable, an old movie with Loretta Young, about two nuns and their faith that can move mountains. We loved it! I also recently bought the 1963 movie version of the book The Cardinal - haven't watched this yet!
So, any other movies you suggest that have a Catholic flavour or feel? Not necessarily about a Saint but a definite Catholic sense, as the two movies above have, a picture if you like of some part of the Church. Even in a Hollywood film!

Five People You Meet in Heaven is excellent and a great discussion opener on Purgatory.

Scarlet and the Black and Miracle at Moreaux are GREAT for WW2 and saving the Jews.
Shoes of the Fisherman is prophetic -- it's about a pope from an Eastern bloc country and dealing with the Communists as a Catholic pope!
The Tree of Wooden Clogs is amazing about life in Italian village.
I Am David is a great view!
An absolute classic: Lilies of the Field!

While it's not all that religious, the ORIGINAL Yours, Mine, and Ours with Lucille Ball is a great movie about a (very) large Catholic family.

Going My Way with Bing Crosby (same character as he plays in Bells of Saint Mary's). We discovered both of these movies several months ago. It's so wonderful to see the Catholic Church presented in such a positive way!

While not overtly Catholic, and not particularly easy to find, The Jeweler's Shop was written by a prominent Catholic actor and playwright most people today know as Pope John Paul II.

A major motion picture, the recently made Molokai: The Story of Father Damien was very inspirational. Some tough scenes of lepers, so this is appropriate for a little older audience. Fr. Damien will soon be beatified (if he hasn't been already, I know the miracles necessary to advance his cause have been confirmed.) After watching this movie, I discovered that Robert Louis Stevenson had visited the leper colony, and also had written a very wonderful letter in Fr. Damien's defense, which he considered his greatest work. He even prophesied that Fr. would be canonized (in the letter he refers to the "devil's advocate" who tries to discredit the person being proposed for sainthood). And he wasn't even Catholic! Here's the link for the letter he wrote.

We too have recently discovered Bells of St. Mary's and have put Going My Way on our netflix requests. Then I started wondering if there are more movies with a Catholic setting and found this thread.
Here's one that I'd like to add: The Trouble with Angels. I was a bit dismayed with the naughty behaviour of the girls in the movie, but the witness of the joy of her vocation that the Sister portrays is well worth watching.
Any others?

Thank-you!
Would it be possible to have a "sticky" that would have a running list of these movies and books?

We LOVE this film, too, Leonie!
And, a fun part is: Loretta Young is (was) godmother (and aunt) to my 12yo son's godmother....kind of a strange connection (we LOVE her in The Bishop's Wife, too........not Catholic-based)
btw.........Loretta died in the state of grace.....a happy and holy and peaceful death...I had first-hand info

Also not overtly Catholic, but we love The Fighting Sullivan's. The opening scene is each of the baptism's. The Prize Winner of Defiance, OH (my old stomping grounds BTW! ) has a Catholic undertone. The book talks much more of her Catholic faith. The movie is not appropriate for the younger crowd in my opinion.

We watched Bella for the first time last night. It was so good! Today I googled Eduardo Verastegui, and he is the real thing. A very inspirational role model for my sons.

Diana~
This is the thread I was thinking of: Good Catholic Movies. That should keep you busy for awhile . There are a couple more, I'll link later.
And the idea of a comilation-of-thread / sticky is a good one!
