I have one nasty splinter in the bottom of my foot. I've soaked in Epsom salts but it hasn't made it's way out. I've ignored it way too long thinking it would come out on it's own and it's too the point now where walking is painful.

Any suggestions? I hate, hate, hate going to the doctor and prefer to care for it myself, but after the traditional Epsom salt soak, I'm lost as to where to go from here.

Thanks for any ideas.

Duct tape a piece of banana peel to it. It will draw it out in a short while. Seriously it works like a charm!

That sounds really weird Michele .. but I don't see why not to try it, I've heard a banana peel on your forehead helps a headache too

I know mine is not likely the approved method.. but I'd clean a needle and open it up and then try the soaking.. and might even dig a bit.. and pull it out between needle, tweezers and fingernails.

I've tried the digging with a needle (soaked in alcohol)and I couldn't find it. It's really in there...

I will try the banana peel, never heard of it! Thanks.

I know it sounds strange but it works because of the enzymes in the peel. A ripe banana peel works best in my experience. My 9 yr. old dd had a big splinter deep in her foot a few days ago and the banana peel worked it out in less than an hour.

Let me know if it works for you. If the splinter is very deep you may need to do it a few times. Overnight is probably your best bet. Oh and you only need a piece a few inches square, not the whole peel.

I'll let you know, I've already taped it to the bottom of my foot and I'm heading to bed hopeful. Thanks again.

I've been wondering the same thing! How'd the banana work?

Ok, I'm LOL because I thought I was the only one wondering about this over the weekend.

Maddie, you didn't slip on that banana peel, did you?

Ds11 got a splinter the other day and I so badly wanted to try it. He wouldn't let me. I thought about chasing him around the house with a banana peel and some duct tape......but he hopped into the bath.

What really convinced me was that I had a tiny piece of graphite (from a pencil point) deep in my palm for YEARS and when I tired the banana peel it drew it out within a few hours. I have read that it can work on warts too but have never had the occasion to try it.

It DOES work on warts! Until this thread, I hadn't heard about using banana peels on splinters, but have had good luck with them taking away warts. I'm glad to learn a new use for my banana peels! What a versatile fruit

God bless,
Christine

Ok, I'm hearing a big info-mercial here "The Amazing Grazing Banana Peel - eats away at whatever is ailing you. Just apply with duct tape...."

Michelle, dh has a piece of graphite in his chest - jumped off a bunkbed in his college/young adult years, pencil in hand. Ouch! He must have been reading scripture, because he always wanted to title the incident "Man writes Word of God on heart. Literally."

I'll mention the banana peel to him. The duct tape will probably be his favorite part, though. Don't all guys love duct tape?

My dh gave me the weekend to try alternative methods but by Monday I was in terrible pain. Went to the dr. today who diagnosed it as a wart , I've never had a wart in my life and just assumed it was a splinter! I did faithfully wear that banana peel though and it provided excellent cushion to my sore heel. We get plenty of splinters around here, so I will definitely try the banana peel idea in the future.

Now to research warts. My dr said it is common in pregnancy to get them and recommended an over the counter remedy or having him freeze it. Yuck.

I'm rereading all the posts, banana peels help with warts?

I'll try it. It was weird, when I was wearing the peel, the site on my heel was protruding, like something was trying to make it's way out but couldn't.

I am so not wearing the silver duct tape this time. It looked ugly. I think I'll look for a nice red.

Did you have to pierce the skin at all before applying the peel? I have graphite in my hand from 8th grade that is still in there.

Maddie, I know when ds had a problem with warts, one of the things the dr. did before applying anything was to shave a little of the surface off (dead skin) with a razor blade, to allow the meds to get to the live tissue.

And if the banana doesn't work, we had great success with the OTC freezer stuff. That and ds just pulled it out himself.     Eewww, but that's what a teenage boy is like sometimes. And it worked. Oh, and eventually the body will throw them off, but it can take time, and I know the plantar types are painful.

I don't think I pierced the skin --it just worked its way out.
