Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Two months ago, my long distance friend, Andrea, shared with me that she was developing a local friendship through prayer partnership. Andrea asked a woman who she repsected but didn't spend time with, to be her prayer partner. She agreed. They pray for each other's intentions daily. They also talk on the phone at designated times, twice a week for 10 minutes max.

I took my friend's suggestion and asked a local acquaintance to be a prayer partner with me. We have kept it very flexible, talking on Monday and Wednesday for a few minutes. We share our current intentions and close with a prayer. We have also called at other times for a quick prayer boost. We agreed that this shouldn't be viewed as one more burdensome thing to do. It needs to feel helpful and encouraging.

From there we put together a two person yahoo group where we share helpful stuff on faith, family life, etc. We are also getting coordinated and getting our families together occasionally. For me, it is the promise to pick up the phone and connect in prayer that has been the key to success in developing this local friendship.

I'm glad that Andrea mentioned this idea to me...so I thought I would mention it to you .

Love,

Angie...this is such a wonderful idea. I will be praying and thinking about a woman from my parish or perhaps my homeschool group to be partners with. I love the idea of connecting by phone a couple of times per week. Since I have been on a cable internet connection I can count the number of times I actually talk to someone on one hand each week!

Here's another idea I'd like to present. Are there any dh's out there that would like to pray for conversion of non-Catholic husbands? Obviously the social aspect would not be there (at first) since it would be a one way prayer commitment. If anyone would rather not post, PM me

Gwen,

What a wonderful idea! I spoke with my dh about it and he's open to taking on that role. If this takes off and you know of someone who would like that support, please pm me.
