Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It always helps me complete something if I know I am doing it together with someone. Join me for the next 7 Mondays (after this one) and pick one "hot spot" each week. Then, let's share what we've done.

Keep it simple so you don't lose your spiritual focus of Lent.

Visit my blog for more details. Are you in?? Surely you have some piles that need tossing or reorganizing.

I'm right there with you, Sarah! Thanks for encouraging me to attend to something I am so prone to ignore.

Oh Sarah ... dh and I will be starting the decluttering process (especially as we may be moving again ) as a Lenten act ... the whole family will be involved and we are going to be cutting way back (especially as the kids are "bored" and yet we have a room full of toys! )

I just decluttered and rearrnged in the learning room over the last week. In the process I was able to put all the book work in order for dh's business tax records and reorder my mail and crrespondence filing system.
The room's arrangement and those new systems in place make me feel like a load has been lifted.
I'm on to decluttering and rearranging in the living room, which should only be a one day project.
I'm redecorating everywhere too...I think I hit my nesting binge early!

Great! I can't wait to get started. It will feel so nice to have new empty spaces.

I'll join you Sarah.

I don't know if I'll do 30 minutes on Mondays. I think I'll post on Mondays whatever I did during the week. I was trying in February to do FlyLady's habit of the month, which is 15 minutes of decluttering a day. It seems I skip lots of days, then I do over an hour on one day. I'd like to try to be more balanced.

I'll choose my 7 hot spots like you did. I think that will help me to keep it simple.

Yes, I'm in. I need to, but you're so right on your blog about not getting obsessive about it. I don't want to lose focus either.

What a great idea. I love how you divided into seven workable areas and spread the days a week apart. I don't think I'm going to join in (you know - cuz I'm sooo near perfection    -NOT. Can I still use -NOT- ?? ) Have fun!

More rambling: you know that Febreeze commercial where the people keep opening the door over and over to smell the freshness? I always feel that way when I've just decluttered an area. I'll just go hang out by it and look at it and be pleased. And I'll do this over and over.

I just found this thread...

I need to be in on this...I can't say I "want" to be...but the clutter...oh the clutter.

Have you ever had a cupboard(s) that is so full, that if you open it all the way, things will fall out...so...instead of opening it all the way, you open it just enough so that you can throw in a specified object...and close the door quickly enough that nothing falls out...    only to hear other things in the cupboard come crashing down as you latch the cupboard...    However, I think to myself, "yes, I heard the crash...but I did not see it...therefore, it must not exist..."

Hmmmm...guess de-cluttering is on my schedule.

I love Lent.

How do people go a year without a Lent? That baffles me.

God Bless,
Maggie

Maggie,

Welcome aboard!

I had a pantry like that recently. Oh how I avoided it for weeks until chaos! wow! It got out of control!!

So, one day the kids were happy and I was waiting for a pizza to cook. I decided to just do a little in the pantry. I set a timer to see how far I got before I had to stop and how long timewise that would be.

17 minutes later the pantry was near perfect! Only the top shelf was remaining which wasn't a problematic shelf anyway.

My lesson: messes LOOK bigger than they are!! Really. I've had that expeuence time and again. I will sit in distress looking at how messy the living room has gotten and imagine it taking forever to recover. When we actually tackle the mess its like 10 minutes.

So, go for it Maggie!! It won't be as bad as you think. I'm pumping you up. . . And yes, I have had cupboards and whole closets like that! Yikes!

Keep us posted. . .

And gear up everyone for mission 2.

Ladies, I didn't get as far as I wanted on mission 1. But I won't be discouraged. I'm rolling up my sleeves for another round on the same hotspot. It just goes to show that its about real life and not about keeping up appearances that we are something perfect.

Mission 2 coming soon. . .

Hey ladies--I was behind this week because of Mardi Gras here in Louisiana...but my three oldest children are spending until Wednesday evening in Houston with their grandparents, so I decided to try to jumpstart myself by tackling one clutter hotspot and one deep cleaning task each day that they are gone. For me right now, laundry and clothes are the biggest problem...they're everywhere! And I had done really well streamlining last year...I'm not sure what happened. But tonight I tackled decluttering my washer and dryer area (it's like a pantry in the kitchen with lots of shelf space up above)...tomorrow it will be the folding table (I set up a space in my little ones room to fold and put away since we do not have a laundry room) and kids closet...then a deep cleaning of that bedroom.
That's my catching up...then by Monday I hope to move on to the pantry and nearby counter space as well as a deep cleaning of the kitchen. I'll report back then!

Bumping for inspiration!

Go for it ladies. I'm on part 2 of project #1. Had to break it up. Bigger than I thought!

Be sure to share. I LOVE hearing what people are doing. . .
