Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

You ladies are so sweet! I had no idea my little question would bring such responses and interest! After Jen posted about Anne E. McGovern the other day, I was looking at her other titles, Nature Study and Related Literature and Stories and Poems with Lesson Plans are the two not online. So the Nature Study is the one they said would cost $20.

Jen solved my dilemma by comparing Type Lessons with her copy of Nature Study, and as she mentioned above, the Type Lessons is a revised but even better version of the Nature Study.

But you're right, although it totally piqued my curiosity, I realized it wasn't worth it. That was my first reaction -- of course I won't pay that! But it was bugging me that I couldn't see the book! My library isn't officially hooked up with WorldCat, so maybe that's the reason for $20 cost.

I like to use my library or Inter Library Loan to preview books before buying costly books or putting money into printing...hate to do that if it's not going to be used!

Theresa, you found a treasure in your box! Let me know if you're ever thinking of selling it.

I agree, but if you keep the spelling right, it's easy to follow, at least for me!

Jen, your details about this book need to be somewhere in the Science & Nature forum, too - it's great, really helpful. Thanks.

Maybe in Old Nature Study Reprints or maybe OOP Science Books - Recommended Authors since she isn't yet mentioned there, but it sounds like, should be.

I won't tell what my mother-in-law paid for this but I'll tell you the Contents:

Preface

Introduction

Poems and Lesson Plans

Fairy Stories, Fables, and Myths

Legends

Stories of the Knights

Stories Pertaining to Our Country

Bible Stories

Stories that have Inspired Painters and Poets

Miscellaneous Stories

Picture Study

Index

Book is 398 pages. Since, I've been reminded I have it; I've been scanning it and looking more seriously at it as a reasource for poetry.

I have a 1902 copy of Anna E. McGovern's book, Nature Study and Related Literature. This title was reissued in 1905 under a new name, Type Lessons for Primary Teachers in the Study of Nature, Literature and Art by Anna E. McGovern. I downloaded the 1905 copy and compared it side-by-side with my 1902 edition.

This (1905 version) book is also in print, published by Nabu Press in 2010.

I hadn't thought of that, but it's true!

3 Jennifers posting on the same thread!

Very true - I agree!

Jenn Miller always spells her name with 2 nn-s.
GraceandChaos signs her name Jenny.
And, I am always Jen with 1 n.

So, it works!

But isn't Nabu Press just photocopied/scanned versions, on-print company?

Yes - I thought of this yesterday, that the reviews ought to be somewhere in Science & Nature. I think I'll put them in the OOP Science Books thread. I'm glad you posted and reminded me because I had already forgotten that I intended to post them in the other forum.

That's what I thought, too, so I didn't mention it.
