Now that the Christmas books are put away I'm looking for some winter themed books. I got a few wonderful ideas from Dawn's blog (thanks so much for those!) and looking for a few more.

They can be for a wide age span, I have ages 3-9.

Not looking for anything specific, just a variety of ideas for winter themed reading.

What are some of your favorites?

 Thanks!

I got a slew of these from the library at the beginning of Advent/winter. We really loved the photographs inBuilding an Igloo. And who knew igloos had windows?

I've been able to get most of these reserved from the library-thanks everyone!

So far my kid's faves are:
 Snow Riders
Stranger in the Woods (we watched the video too)

My son and I thought Building an Igloo book was interesting. Too bad we have no snow!

Next up is The Race of the Birkebeiners.

can anyone help??? about 5-6 years ago, I found a wonderful picture fiction book at the library. it was about a girl who lived in a northern country- seemed kind of scandanavian??? where they had times of total darkness in the winter. It was so beautiful, and we have searched for it every winter, with no luck. is this ringing a bell??

Adding my Iditarod Book List for next year's snow & winter enthusiasts! There are a lot in there that are great for Jan & Feb reads.

 Our 2 favorites not-to-miss are:
Togo (beautiful, beautiful book!) and The Great Serum Run (our whole neighborhood has LOVED this one!)    Both of these are about the original 1925 race across Alaska to save a town from a Diphtheria epidemic. Amazing books!

I know this may be odd, but are there any winter books you like that don't focus on snow? We live in Florida and snow ain't happening here.

I know this may be odd, but are there any winter books you like that don't focus on snow? We live in Florida and snow ain't happening here.     |

Not odd at all! Here is CA my toddlers are a bit confused to0--when we turned our calendar to say "Winter" on Monday, the kids said, "Oh, now it's time for snow!"

The Tomten

 by Astrid Lindgren

I love this story of the Tomten touring the farm at night, checking on all the animals in winter. The quiet pictures are very cozy and peaceful.
