Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son tells me that some of the kids in his class have weather journals. He has also expressed some interest in a nature journal.

I have a very elementary idea of what these are, eg:

Today is June, 16, 2008. It is a sunny day with some clouds. (Child draws a picture.)

Similar for nature journal.

Is there more to it than this? (I know about pressing leaves, but beyond that....)

What do you do with these, oh creative ones?

There are lots of archived threads about nature journals.

For weather entries or a weather journal:

-My girls sometimes "collect" the weather forecasts from the newspaper and then compare how they've changed throughout the week.

-They record rainfall from our rain guage during the rainy season.

-Learn the different types of clouds and then observe throughout the day/week what types are out and record.

-Copywork of names of clouds.
-Phases of the moon.
-Record Tides.
-Record temperatures of different cities/countries where family or friends live.
-When it snows, storms, etc....they could give a narration of what it looks like outside and decribe what's happening.
-Record times of sun rise and sunset. Describe a sunrise/sunset or draw picture.
Record wind speed. Draw.

Or you could compare forecast with actual weather each day.

That's a great idea, Mary!

What about comparing the weather from where you live to where an out of town family member, penpal, or friend lives throughout the year????

I love these ideas! And we're doing Meteorology this year, so this will be GREAT!
