Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thinking of Elizabeth's and others way of bring painted/wooden WORDS to the different seasons.......I was thinking about what four words could be used for Advent, if you did a new word each week.

Mine would have to go on the piano.......my wood stove just does not have the appropriate mantel

What words can you come up with?

Hmm, good idea! What about Veni, Emanuel or some other Latin words from the Introit and definently Gaudete for the week of the 13th. I will try to think of more.

My list:
Hope (Spes), Prepare (Paro), Rejoice (Gaudete), Come (Adveniat)

Our family "phrase" is "We wait in joyful hope."

I like those Michele!
Unfortunately level space is at a premium in my house, but I put the words into my computer screensaver so every time the computer goes idle, the chosen words 'float' across my screen .

Michelle,
We like to use our "patience" sign on the mantle during Advent, but when I mentioned your "family phrase" to my husband, he thought we should try to incorporate it. Here is what I came up with. Just thought I'd share what your comment inspired!

The English words that Michele listed are the exact ones I had chosen. I think they correspond a little with the Advent Sunday themes.

As far as displaying, I don't do the big letters, but have found pieces of wood or things to paint or write the letters.

I made a mantel piece out of a large piece of wood (painted purple), craft paper and modge podge!

I used the words:
                    P R E P A R E
                tomorrow, I will come

This was inspired by the O Antiphon House that I was making at the same time.

It's really lovely Charlotte --I like it a lot! We've never actually done the letters on the mantel thing though I like the idea.

Now why didn't I think of that? Letters are sooo expensive here so I would read your word ideas in envy. But now thank you, and I love your ideas Michelle.

I was thinking of getting a little blackboard and buying some of those fancy chalk paints, so the sign could be reused and I could post my fancy messages all through the year. Problem is, I can't find a blackboard just the right size, so I'll put this idea on hold until I find the right size.

Thanks, I wanted to use Ero Cras, but it just didn't look 'right' with prepare. :)

I know this is an old thread...

At Costco there was a set of 9 painted letter blocks (Holiday Wood Blocks) for sale. We passed them by when they were $15, but today I noticed they were half off. Now I can't make words like "Prepare" and the colors are red and green, but I really liked them as a jumping off point to make my own. Perhaps a block of wood would be cheaper to buy and paint than precut. (You can see the word peace in this picture[/url].)

I keep seeing the word "Believe" on decoration this year.. and trying very hard not to buy it.. but I might just do so.. so many levels to the word.. and I find that it makes me smile.

I've been tempted to buy the "Believe" signs too. That is one of my favorite "phrases" when I am lacking peace -- yes, lots of levels of depth.

We just need someone to sell "Be not afraid!" blocks...with exclamation point...I'd be ready with checkbook, for sure!

This year I finally have a mantel - I appreciate the revival of this discussion.

Well I did it.. I saw a nice little "Believe" on sale so it was only $4. I couldn't resist and now it's on the high shelf in my living room.

So...where does one find plain wood letters to paint? I was admiring Elizabeth's "PREPARE" as well...
