Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I thought I would just start a new thread - I had posted on the St John Bosco receipes thread but it isn't a receipe, so here it is!

I had mentioned we had been reading from one of our favourite reading books, The Forty Dreams of St John Bosco and so we have continued to do so. Today we read, "The Snake and the Rosary" I was trying to engage my 4 and 1/2 son in particular (his first introduction to these stories) and remembered that a friend had sent two spectacular photos last year that the children had, "Ooohed and Aaaahed" over. (The actual photo was taken in the Northern Territory of Australia, it had been eating the local lambs and the farmer was trying to catch it - the army stumbled upon it caught here and they let it go! Needless to say, the farmer was not too happy. )

So I thought I would show them as I read this story, here are the two pictures:

and here:

This snake sounds exactly like the one in the book and when St John Bosco talks about whipping it with rope, and thrashing and flailing about to free itself (the rope represents the Hail Mary) these pictures can present that *picture* for them.

If you have this book and you think your children will be in awe rather than greatly frightened, I'm sure it will help their little imaginations!

I had my little Joseph's attention the whole time - then we went to Mass and I asked him after the consecration, what was one of the things that healed him from the snake? He said, "receiving Jesus!" ...well he remembered and that was good!

Yes, well we have MORE than our fair share of frightening, dangerous creatures!

The most poisonous snakes in the world and they are really on the move with summer at present, people are finding them in their yards everywhere.

Then we have some nasty spiders, Funnel Webs and Red Back's, the red backs we find on our children's toys outside!

Then carpet snakes are our most well known python, and I think this one has the markings of it but I would like to think that they do not get THAT big! They are often found in roofs of houses and outside toilets and the like.

I couldn't imagine being a little lamb and my last view on life is that cavernous, crimson mouth!

Do you think it belongs in MacBeth's Look what I just saw in my yard! thread? God willing it will NEVER come to that!
