Rumer Godden's book In This House of Brede comes to mind. I also think Mark Salzman's Lying Awake is an extraordinary book although it might be too challenging for younger teens.
Are there comparable books for young men? About life as a priest, monk or brother?

Diary of a Country Priest
With God In Russia. I can't remember if I read this one or his other book He Leadeth Me. I've heard they are both remarkable.....very powerful.
Elena Vidal has a List of Novels with Catholic Spirituality with some great books listed there.
The other thing that comes to mind is books about the Cure of Ars, St. John Vianney .

There were a couple threads on this topic last year. Jenn had quite a list of suggestions for convent life books.
Convent life reading
Books about life in a convent?
She talked about posting an equivelent thread for the priesthood, but I'm not sure that one was ever started. In my brief search I didn't come up with anything in the past threads. Jenn?

The Linky-Fairy fixed the "Convent life reading" link.

Amata Means Beloved
by Mary Catharine Perry
Written by a nun - novel about girl figuring out her vocation, making her way as a novice, and coming to terms with pain in her past that keeps her from giving herself completely to God.
It's on Amazon, but I haven't got time this moment to link it. It's a great read for teen girls.

No, no equivalent thread at this time. I have been trying to find some.

After I posted I remembered Black as Night by Regina Doman. It's not great literature and not specifically about religious life, but her Franciscan Friars are real and appealing.
There's also Death Comes for the Archbishop by Willa Cather. I don't know how I forgot that one.

Catholics, by Brian Moore, republished in '06 by Loyola Classics. It's the story of a monastery in Ireland that holds to its Latin Mass and private confessions, which had been forbidden (in the future). An envoi is sent to rebuke the Abbot. Great descriptions of the island, life in the monastery, the brothers, etc.
I just found out it was a movie with Martin Sheen in 1973.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to mention.....I saw this book: The Shadow of His Wings as one of the books for their Book Club at a nearby parish. More action....not exactly "convent life" or "typical-life-of-a-priest", but .......life of a young German seminarian drafted into Hitler's SS. And, probably not for younger teens either, but wanted to mention it.
