My MIL brought us a tub of Aquaphilic. It has done a great job fixing our hands. MIL said it is the base for most lotions, so it is odorless. It does have ingredients I would normaly avoid, white petrolatum, methylparaben and propylparaben. It has done wonders for our skin. Ds8 hands are just a mess during the winter and this lotion has done wonders for them. My plan is to use the Aquaphilic to fix the dry patches then use a more natural product for maintenance.

I have not heard of this. My dh has a chronic skin condition which doesn't produce his own moisture. He normally uses Lac-Hydrin lotion all over, but during the day his hands get really chapped. He loved the Neutragena Norwegian Hand Formula, but I like the idea of your odorless stuff, as I don't like the residual perfume of NHF.

That reminds me, I was going to look for a lotion applicator that one could use on your own back, a long reach type of thing. Is there such a thing, and would anyone point me in the right direction?

Darn, I hit post before I remembered...Mary Chris, is the Aquaphilic greasy feeling? We also use Aquaphor for ds all over for his eczema, but it certainly makes him slippery and my clothes all grease stained.

It is not too greasy. It takes a few minutes for it to be absorbed into the skin.
We had to ask the folks at CVS to order it for us, it was about 12.00 for a good size tub.
It forms a good barrier and protects your skin even with frequent hand washing.

Do you have any face moisturizer suggestions? Right now I just slop on Eucerin lotion (unscented, recommended for eczema sufferers) to combat the incredibly dry flaky skin that cold mountain winters cause...sigh. (Also, I'm allergic to all things Oil of Olay. I have no idea why.)

I can't use the scented lotions, and none of Olay products, either. I like Cetaphil products, but I have a tendency to break out, so I use a program from Paula's Choice. She's written several books, and is always reviewing products out there. I would check out her reviews of best products for eczema, but she has her own line, too, which has worked the best for me for my sensitve skin that is prone to breakouts.

My daughter (also 8) has very itchy/dry/scabby hands from the second the fall weather starts until spring. Is this what Carter deals with too, Mary Chris?

I am interested in the Aquaphilic, which one did you get?

- Aquaphilic Ointment (Hydrated hydrophilic ointment)
- Aquaphilic Ointment with 10% CARBAMIDE (Hydrated hydrophilic ointment with 10% urea)
- Aquaphilic Ointment with 20% CARBAMIDE (Hydrated hydrophilic ointment with 20% urea)

(That "urea" ingredient had me wondering, but the Eucerin webiste says it is "(at room temperature a white and odourless powder) that is synthetically produced from inorganic salts and does NOT come from any animals or humans. Had me wondering... )

I'm going to check into Paula's Choice, too.

Thanks to both of you..

Well the 11.95 one at Amazon is not REALLY on sale. It's available for that price at the Vermont Country Store.

I'd probably buy it from them vs. the 3rd party on Amazon. Link

Thanks! I should have looked myself. Didn't think of Amazon. I was thinking I needed to go to a medical supply place. Duh!

Exactly! His hands are not perfect yet, but oh so much better!

We have the Aquaphilic Ointment.

WE are Burt's Bees lovers here. THe hand salve is great for really troublesome hands. Ds wears it at night with socks over his hands. They have other lotions and salves as well.

OK, I have to share something new that I found for my dry skin on my hands this winter. My hands get so dry that the skin cracks around my finger tips and hurts as bad as paper cuts.      I started using Super Glue when a doctor suggested it and mentioned that it is almost exactly the same thing that emergency rooms are using in place of stitches. Since I was unsure of exactly how safe those chemicals are, I was using it sparingly and only when the cuts on my hands really hurt.

When I was in Lowes recently, I asked a salesman where they kept the Super Glue. He told me and then asked me what I was going to glue. I was very embarrassed but ended up telling him the truth--that I needed it for the cracked skin on my hands.

Well, he was the best person to ask. He proceeded to tell me that I didn't need Super Glue. I needed something called New Skin that I could get for $5 at our local grocery store. It has worked wonders on my small cuts. It is amazing to not have to live with that pain all winter!

By the way, based on the smell, I think someone took basic clear nail polish, added an antiseptic ingredient to it and now sells it as this liquid bandage.
