Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wondered whether these 12 Months of Monastery (soups, cooking, etc.) books follow the Liturgical Year as well as the regular (I don't know ... what would you call it? Secular? Gregorian?).

Also, I'm having issues with my Continual Feast cookbook as it seems the ingredients are hard to find. Since my husband shops for us, we need something easily found in any grocery store. How do the Twelve Months books rate in easy-to-find ingredients?

Thanks,

Hi Tina,
I have Twelve Months of Monastery Soups. I like it, but I wish it followed the liturgical year more. I mean, the recipes are definitely seasonal, heavier soups in the winter, lighter in the summer, but there really aren't that many feast days mentioned. There are a few... St. Nicholas Soup comes to mind, as well as a soup for St. Patrick. On average, I'd say there is one recipe per month that is tied to the liturgical calendar.
In regards to availability of the ingredients though, I really haven't had much problem. I sometimes substitute if I don't have something on hand, but that is fairly easy with soup recipes. I haven't really found anything exotic to worry about.
Hope that somewhat answers your question.
Don't know if that answers your question at all.

I agree with Becky. The cookbooks are seasonal, not liturgical. There are only sprinklings of feast day foods. AND they are all vegetarian.

I think they are simple, but sometimes there are ingredients I don't like, or know that my son won't touch. I have more restrictions since we don't do dairy.
