We are expecting Margaret Frances (for St. Mary Margaret Alacoque and St. Frances Cabrini and my late mil). A boy would have been named John Benedict( after JPII and Pope Benedict). We know a family with a Regina Caeli (Queen of Heaven) and another family with a Martin dePorres.
God bless,
Mary-NY

Okay, I think we may have decided on the first name, you'll have to wait so I can surprise you but one hint, it is mentioned here.
Now I need help for a middle name, because the first is unusual I'm after what I call a 'Catholic evergreen' name. You know like my boys' middle names already, Francis, Michael, Joseph and Patrick. I am thinking two syllables as the first is a long name (have I narrowed down our choice? )

To be really honest a friend's son had the name and dh really liked it, but it had to be a saints name so I did some searching to make it fit. First time I had done that. We came up with Bl John of Saxon, a priest who was murdered in early England whilst he was saying Mass. Actually he was a French priest living in England. I thought 'well we have Xavier which is a saints place name so why not Saxon?'

my vote is for Thomas for a middle name then. two syllables, strong, and there are quite a few awesome St Thomas patron saints!! plus it goes well with your other middle names...

Well I thought that if it were three, it would be a tremendous give-away 'cause there is so many with 3 syllables!!
Are you looking for a male saint from any particular 'field' (not put well) for eg: a marian saint, a doctor of the church, a missionary...any thoughts on that, thinking you might want to tie in a theme on your first name...

Gabriel or Raphael as you've already got a Michael?
Dominic or Benedict as you've already got founders of religious orders?
John because it's good and plain and solid and the name of the beloved disciple?
Felix, just because it's a lovely name?
So many great possibilities!

Just wanted to say that you have similar name trends as we do... a slight unusual name paired with traditional. Leo was ALMOST a Kolbe and we entertained Jerome and Sebastian with Dominic. AND we also don't shorten...
Our boys are
Xavier James
Leo Maximilian
Dominic Vianney
On my short list for future boys are Jude Michael and Ephrem Joseph.

What about David, it is evergreen, two syllables and dh's name?
Martin, Vincent, Peter, Philip, Matthew...

I guess I wanted a saint I have a particular love for and thinking about it deeply I think I have already used up my favourites. I obviously need to cultivate some more devotions or stop having sons
Elizabeth,
I already have a Dominic, Gabriel is out as we named out babe in heaven Gabrielle d'Angelique, we really like Benedict but don't want it shortened, dh likes John but I don't
Ellie
I can't believe it you have a Dominic and Xavier too!!! Love your names choices.
Anne
David isn't into using his name in any form for the dc.
But I now have on my list for the middle name,
James, Jerome, Vincent, Gerard.
Dh and dd are plugging for James, my problem is I don't have a devotion to him, maybe I need to read up on St James. I think I prefer Vincent but then I have a devotion to him.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, the polling booth is not closed yet

Caeli is me adapting the Latin Coeli, I was going to pronounce it Ch- as in cheese, ay- as in day, lee- as in Brett Lee.

The problem w/ going by just names you have a devotion to is that there are often ugly names in that mix! E.g., I love Fulton Sheen... but other than MAYBE using Sheen in a middle name, it's out of the question.
One of my top 3 male saints is St. Peter Julian Eymard. Can't use Peter w/ our surname and I won't even consider the other two.
Gerard? Well, to each their own I suppose.
I also like the names Savio and Campion...

fwiw: 3 syllable names flow nicely w/ one syllable middles: James, Jude, John, etc.
ETA: We used Vianney after Dominic because I seriously felt like God was giving us signs that we needed to use that name and we wern't quite gutsy enough to make it a first name... almost, but not quite. But he is a powerful patron!

yeah, we would never have considered Gerard, but after losing a twin (hence one of the reasons we choose "Thomas", it means twin.) and being blessed with a first class relic of Gerard, we were won over to using it for a 3rd name.
Bonaventure is cool too. he was named John, but almost died as a young child/baby. He was blessed by St Francis, and was miraculously healed, hence the name Bonaventure, or good fortune..
I love it when names tell a story..
my oldest ds has a good friend with the last name "Campion", we're so jealous!!

Our boys have Gerard as their middle name. We seek his intercession with each pregnancy, and thought it fitting to name our sons after him.
Luke Gerard
Maximilian Gerard

Re-reading this, wow you all gave great suggestions
Now two years later, with next baby due in a four months time, we need to think names again. Oh fun
So I'm back here re-reading, hoping that a name will shout, "Pick Me!!"
BTW, for members who weren't here back then, we called the baby discussed here; Ignatius James.
