Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

to the hospital when you're heading off to have your new baby? (other than the usual toiletries and clothes, I mean)

For some reason, I'm in a real baby mood today Elizabeth's blog about her favorite goodies for new-baby-time was just right up my alley! (Thank you so much, Elizabeth, for sharing...I've been doing some shopping this afternoon )

I have a feeling that when I get done reading the other moms' favorite things, I'll be heading back out to shop some more...online, of course!!

My favorite things to take to the hospital:
*Brand-new nursing nightgown/slippers for me & outfit/blanket for the baby ...makes you feel so pretty!
*Relaxing music, new book, rosary
*Mother's Milk tea
*A favorite movie on VHS (for when dh comes in the evening so we can all snuggle up after dinner and fall asleep together!)...without a movie on to drown out the noise of the hospital, we might never get to sleep! After all, we're used to the peace and QUIET of the farm!

I always brought MY music and CD player. Can't do without it!
Oh, and some decent food...

Kristine,
I added the hyperlink to my favorite things to your post. I also brought holy water, my portable cd player and my rosary cd, my own tea bags (Molly told me to do that), several sets of pjs, thank you notes...

But by far the biggest treat was the night after Karoline was born. DH brought his laptop and sat up next to me in bed and we read every single comment on both prayer threads and all the blog comments to her birth announcement. We both cried and we both marvelled over the power of the internet and the kindness of the people all over the world who have touched our lives. We needed and appreciated every single prayer.

Then we watched baseball (it's a tradition)

Thank you...now why didn't I think of that?!

I loved reading about that, too... Football is ours (er, scheduling our babies around game night, actually) but that's a long story!

My items are pretty much what's been mentioned so far. But I also take socks. I have two pair that have been with me for every baby. One pair is hot pink and the other pair is kelly green. When we had our first dd I had read about taking socks and that things might get stained. I chose those socks because I didn't care if they were ruined. Well, it turned out that I liked that burst of color and they've been with me at every delivery since! Now, I DO care if they get ruined because I'd miss having them for the next baby.

Even my husband connects them with childbirth. He said I needed to get a third pair into the rotation so I'd have pair to give to each of our dd's when they grow up and have babies. I said I think we'll just stick to these and I'll loan them out to whomever needs them....I doubt all three will be in labor at the same time!

I don't bring my own nightgowns or anything like that, but I want to have inspiring reading material. Once, I took the Charlotte Mason Companion book by Karen Androlea. Another time our new baby was born during the height of homeschool catalog season, so the last week I just started stuffing them into my suitcase, knowing that I'd enjoy having peace and quiet in the hospital and lots of time there to read through them. I still have over a month left before this baby, but I ordered the book off of Elizabeth's blog so far, and I'll hopefully find a couple of other options to pack as well before the big day. If I don't plan ahead, I'm stuck with TV and "People" magazine from the waiting room!

I bring a picture of my kids to look at when I'm getting really tired during labor. It gives me hope that the baby will come with all the hard work and that I have been blessed!

I brought a brand new brita pitcher to filter the water...I knew I had to drink a lot of it and it was easier than gallons of the bottled stuff ]

Reading material. Something pretty to wear on the off chance I get visitors. Not much else. LOL. Dh doesn't stay with me in the evenings, or anything. He spends more time with the other dc (this time, he won't even be in country, so it's really a moot point).

I suspect that I will have someone bring me my laptop this time around. LOL. I'm too "board addicted" to go to the hospital without letting someone know!

I tried music with #1...not bothering to do that again. Frankly, I'm just going to be begging someone to bring me some food after I deliver, lol. I seem to have babies at times when the kitchen is between meals, or worse yet, in the middle of the night (I had one at 4am, another at about 1130 pm, and another smack in the middle of the afternoon. SIGH).

I made use of super warm socks and my husband's laptop too! I also get a new light bathrobe and bring a fun shirt to wear over the ugly pajamas for when visitors come. My sister-in-law always fulfills my desire for a cup of dunkin'donuts coffee when she comes to visit

On a side note -- I did something different this pregnancy for when I got home...I ordered new really soft sheets for our bed and saved them to put on right before going to the hospital (distraction from labor pain!). So when I came home, I not only enjoyed the snuggle with the newborn in bed -- but the feel of new high thread-count cotton sheets!!

I don't go to the hospital, but I always have honey during labor, when nothing else will do I down a tspn. of honey for a quick energy boost.

I have an old blue button front nightgown that my mom gave to me after I had my first. After only four kids ,its starting to look pretty shabby but I don't care- it will be with me for the fifth and proudly worn I also have to have a REALLY good cup of decaf coffee which my sister usually brings for me (hospital coffee just doesn't cut it). When I was in the hospital for 2 weeks during my second pregnancy, I went so far as to have a mini coffee grinder and small 1 cup coffee maker with me!Small things mean a lot

Marie-love the socks story- too cute!
Lisa-the honey is a great idea for energy-I never would have thought of that.

Not a hint...I hope I can announce it someday but right now I'm not even cycling.

I bring cherry Sno-Cone flavoring to add to those ice chips the nurses so generously serve. This is what got me through #4's 30 hour labor.

I also bring my own pillow & a birth ball (if the hospital doesn't have one).

With Baby #4 I brought a gold inkpad to stamp his feet on a Blessing book I had made for all his visitors to record a prayer for him in.

I don't pack this but we always bring it when the children come to meet their new sibling-a birthday cake! We have a big party & the children give the baby a gift. In turn, the baby gives the next one up, a baby doll of their own.

(This is what we did with the first child and we just continued it on down the line. Never at that time had I imagined I would be the mother of 5! )

I use to make t-shirts that said, "I'm a big sister!" for all the siblings but decided to make baby doll slings instead with the last birth.

The children all looked so precious carrying their babies around the hospital in slings.

Our 2-year-old son had a sling with bugs & spiders all over it. He preferred to carry "Wayne" backpack style. Very boyish!

Pinning away for another baby...
