Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I got this from the FIAR boards. This is a movie that dh and I thought would be fun to see but we'll be skipping it now.

Subject: [OLQP] FYI: The Golden Compass

Hello everyone,
This is an FYI that a terrible, anti-Catholic movie called the "Golden Compass" will be coming out in early December, aimed at children and labeled as a family movie. This movie is based on a series of books by an atheist British author (Phillip Pullman) whose goal in writing the books is to be the "Anti-Narnia" series and to lead children into atheism.

The main villains in the series of books are the Magisterium, Cardinals, and the Pope, and includes a heroine that is a young girl who sets out to kill God. The truly sick thing about the movie is that they have made it APPEAR as if it is an innocent film, with exciting effects and a fairytale story. They have removed from the movie the appalling anti-Catholic/Christian themes from the book. The goal of the movie is to hook unsuspecting families into viewing the film so that children will then want to read the books (and probably buy merchandise). Nicole Kidman stars in it, and Scholastic Books is behind it.

I heard about this from Bill Donahue of the Catholic League who was on "The World Over" on EWTN. The goal is to let as many people as possible know about this horrible film and to have it bomb at the box office. The makers of the movie are hoping it will be as big as Harry Potter or the DaVinci Code. Let's pray that it won't! Please tell as many people as possible to avoid this terrible film. Thanks!

You can order a booklet to help you articulate what is wrong with this author and movie to friends and neighbors here

I sent this link out to a lot of people and at least one of my protestant friends has ordered it.

ETA: I also sent this link to my pastor and office staff

One more thing. Here is what a local mother from our group sent me about her experience at Borders book store:

Earlier
this month I went to Borders, and received a pack of stuff they were
handing out to teachers. Included was a sheet about the books and the
upcoming movie, and the content made my blood freeze! Among the
classroom discussion points are the following:

"A daemon is an animal manifestation of a person's soul...Ask students
to pick a daemon for themselves. Encourage them to share their choice
in class."

Under classroom activities -

"Just for fun! Have students meet their daemon using the "Daemon
Generator" at www.goldencompassmovie.com. "

The only thing I appreciate about Pullman is that he is right up front about his agenda. When folks tell you how great his books are (and most of the time, the parents and teachers have not read them!!), one can easily Google and find, in Pullman's own words, his atheistic world view, and his hatred of the literature of Lewis, Tolkien and his hatred of Christianity. And his agenda is broad...in the third book of the series, the main character, now 12, has an obvious se*ual encounter. There is nothing sacred that is not attacked. All's fair in atheist-land.

Fighting him is easy, as long as we get the word out. Let's keep posting links and other info, and spread the word.

Here is the Snopes article on the Golden Compass. Bill Donohue of the Catholic League is quoted in the article.
