Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello Ladies,

We have been talking so much about Christmas presents that I thought I would come here and ask for suggestion for a gift that I'm sure most of you would love.

My mom gives us a large family gift every year. Her only stipulation is that it help us in deepening our Catholic faith for our children.    When I say large I mean $150, large. To me that is an enormous amount of money to use on a Catholic Resource. Last year she bought us the entire Glory Story collection! The year before she bought pretty much every Fr. Lovasick book out there. The year before that was A collection of holy cards that would rival the vatican's!!!!!!

So I come to you, what Catholic Resource would you buy if money was no object????

My only idea so far was Catholic Mosaic and the coloring book to go with it and all the books.

Any good websites? I'd rather it be one place that I could get everything so I would only have one order to place.

TIA!

Sacred Heart Books or Hillside Education each have Catholic Mosaic and many if not all of the picture books. Christmas Mosaic is another good one to own.

I think your idea of Christmas or Catholic Mosaic and all its books is terrific. Another would be a complete mass set from Our Father's House if you do not already have one. What a truly blessed gift to your family!

I would buy every single Tomie DePaola book about saints and Catholicism. We reread ours every year and it makes Advent truly special.

All the Catholic Mosaic books is a wonderful choice, too - we love the ones we own.

Maybe some Hilda Van Stockum or C.S. Lewis books for your older child?

I would either do the mass set or the mosaic books. Another possibility though, would be a really nice nativity that was kid friendly and sort of Montessori style? Oh! My girls *love* the Cat Chat cds. That's another option.

One of my favorite resources is the Catholic Treasure Box series. It's a big investment if you buy all the books, but the stories in them appeal to different ages and levels so you can use them for a long time.

What is Cat Chat????

I had never even considered the Mass kit, what a great idea!

Off to do some research...

Does anyone have these?? Catholic Art I know Jessica at Shower of Roses uses the coloring pages but has anyone used any of their teacher kits???

Cat. Chat Is a WONDERFUL CD series that's set up sorta like a radio show with songs and stories.. the narrator is the family cat.. but the Cat. in "Cat. Chat" is short for Catholic too.

My kids just love these.. and it was the first thing I thought of when reading your post. Your kids are a great age for it. They'll enjoy it now and for a good while yet (my 12 yr old still really likes them).

Well, if it were me, I know what I would want..the entire dvd series of Footprints of God with Steve Ray. We only have three and I've so wanted to complete the set. I think they are great for making scripture come alive from an archeological, geographical, and historical perspective.

Another top choice would be the complete Vision series of books that have been reprinted and any old OOP ones I could get my hands on (actually probably would be more interested in the OOP ones )

Speaking of OOP books - I'd track down all the liturgical year resources that Jenn Miller has and get those.

Or maybe a large, well crafted Madonna - I've always wanted something more spectacular than the smaller statues we have. Or a nice collection of smaller statues of some special family patrons.

Oh yes! We love these! All these suggestions are lovely, though. I know what I would want- one of those decade-candle sets, where you can light a candle as you pray each mystery of the rosary.

I second these! Either would be a good choice. The DVDs are on my wish list

Cat Chat CDs have been popular here, too.

God bless,
Christine

The Liturgical Year!

I have used these books for years and they are great to get perspective on the readings, feast days, and saints bios. Dom Guarenger exelently explains and gives history on church practices and customs. If I had to pick some books quick because the neighborhood was on fire, these would be first!
