Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am trying to build up a home medicine kit - so that I do not have to run to the store when the kids (or dh or myself) are sick. I do always have a bottle of children's tylenol and advil and a pack of adult Advil - and I have a well stocked first aid/emergency kit (always needed with all the boys and sports!!! )

Please share what you think are essential remedies to stock up on - and the brands if possible. My list so far is:

- Sambucol kids
- Sambucol adults
- Airborne
- Olbas Oil
- Tea Tree oil
- Lavender oil
- California Baby cold and flu bath
- Masada bath salts - Eucalyptus for colds
- ginger ale
- pedialyte
- color free gatorade
- peaches in syrup (from someone on this list!)

Thanks!

I like to keep some Traditional Medicinals kids Throat Coat tea on hand. My dd is very prone to bad sore throats, and this really soothes her. Also some cammomile tea is good to keep around for fussy toddlers and baby's, and for overtired bigger kids (and adults!)

I like Arnica oil or gel for bumps and bruises. Apis oil or gel for bee stings.

Other than that, you've got a great list there for me to glean from!

Another good one for us lately has been Calendula Ointment. My son had stitches and had to wear a bandaid on his chin for several weeks. The bandaid itself chaffed his skin pretty bad. As we would adjust the placement of the bandaid, we would put Calendula on the other parts of the chaffed skin. He said it was instant relief, no itching or burning. I've used it for eczema and sunburn relief too.

I second the Calendula and Arnica. I would maybe get Arnica pellets (30 C maybe) -- helps with bruising from teeth extraction, head bumps, any non-bleeding injury.

Ledum tincture is good for bee stings, tick bites, etc.

I keep Belladonna for high fevers with flushed cheeks and bright eyes.

Also, and this might be just me I keep Chamomilla 30 C. It's awesome for just plain fussy and irritable babies. No particular reason, just complaining, fussing, possible linked to teething, but not neccessarily. Not really a "sick" thing, but this remedy has been a life-saver to have on hand for me in the past.

Oh, the dosage for 30 C potency pellets is : approx. 3 pellets every 5 mins for three times.
The potencies start low at 6x, 30x, then 30c and 200c, then 1m and 10 m. I don't know how much you know. But, if you have more questions about dosing or potencies I can try to help.

ARNICA! 200 c if you can get it (30 c is also handy to have)
You can buy homeopathic remedy kits (anywhere from 30-100 remedies). I like these very much (along with 1-2 good books). I give them as presents to my adult kids.
Yours in Christ,
Kathy

I'm bumping our seasonal cold and flu prevention threads!

I know it's a little late to bump this thread as we're already well into cold/flu season, but I'm late getting my little viral-fest-cold-flu-season kit stocked. It's on my list of things to tackle and stock this week. I know I'm low on Elderberry, and I'm hoping to find something non-liquid. I had a chewable tablet form one time and that was ok. My big kids DON'T like the liquid.

I can't believe that we really haven't been sick yet - which is pretty astounding. Must be all the garlic we've been eating!

Please share anything new you may have discovered for your seasonal medicine kit! And don't forget to check out:

Do you dilute the liquid in water? We use this kind and once mixed with water, it tastes like regular fruit juice to my kids. Of course, my kids rarely drink juice, so they think its a treat to get something besides water or milk.

I have mixed it before with juice, Lindsay, but that's a good reminder because I didn't do it consistently and it isn't something I just think of doing for some reason. My teen won't touch it in the liquid form at all though.    She claims she'd rather just be sick. I did a quick search at iHerb and found some other options that might work, like the capsule.

We used to really like the Immuni-C packets that Costco carried. They were a lot like the Emergen-C - little foil pouch, open pouch, dump in a glass of water, drink. But the Immuni-C packets were recalled by the company in 2010 because the company claimed they didn't meet their "quality standards". We really like that "form" - the little packet mixed with water. It works well here for me, and my oldest likes that form, too. I'm thinking of trying the Emergen-C Immune Support packets.

We do a lot of Emergen-C around here, but Trader Joe's has the best price I've seen by a lot, and I don't think you have that option.

I don't unless I head up to Mom's in Nashville...but that's ok because I do as little shopping IN A STORE as possible , and I'd probably either order from iHerb or Vitacost anyway! I used to keep a lot of Emergen-C here but really haven't been attentive to keeping my stash stocked, and in going through my kits for the kids and teen/adults, I see that we have none! So, I'm thinking that I'll just need to order a few things, with a variety of Emergen-C being one of them.

We've been very lucky around here lately too

I do remember mentioning Oregano Teafor bad coughs in this post. I used it with a few of my kids but I had to really sweeten it with honey for better taste. It would great!!

I wanted to update this thread with my findings. I'm excited because I found vitafusion (brand) Daily Immune Antioxidant Complex - Elderberry Formula. It's in a gummie form and they don't taste bad to us at all. This is an immune boosting complex so it has other things in it besides the Elderberry: Vitamin A, C, D, E, Zinc and Elderberry (134 mg).

I found my bottles at Walmart, so check locally.

Just found these at the store, and picked them up. My seasonal immune boosting kit is stocked now! We like these Immune+ Emergen-C fizzies a lot!
