Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This year is the 10th Year of our Annual Catholic Homeschool Camp.

I'd love to invite all our Aussie families to join us at camp this year. There is rather a number of us here now.
(Of course any of our overseas friends are welcome to fly over and join us too )

Homeschooling families from around Australia, gather together on the North Coast for a week of fun and spiritual renewal. Families are from mostly NSW and Queensland but we have had families join us from Sth Australia and Victoria.

Our camp life centres around the Chapel; the celebration of the Mass (Latin Rite), Rosary and Benediction. An integral part of our daily rhythm is Catechetical Instruction with a resident priest and presentations from a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd coordinator.   The highlight of the week is the Confirmation Mass (Novus Ordo) where children have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation or to receive their First Holy Communion. This is available to families from outside the Dioceses as well, I'll explain more in pm.

Plenty of time is spent in the surf, building sandcastles, playing endless games of soccer and a Sports Day. Night time brings another flurry of activities including; trivia night, concert and a bonfire.

This annual event is a wonderful time for children to make new friends and catch up with old and a great time for parents to chat and support one another. If you'd like to see photos I shared a journal of our week last year.

If anyone in the States/UK is considering starting a camp I really encourage you. I have previously shared details on 'how to'.

I invite all Aussies to come and join us for our 10th year, in September at Lennox Head, Lismore Diocese on the Far North Coast of NSW.

I wish we had something like this. Conferences are nice, but it can be hard finding a place for the children. Sigh. One of these days...

So if anyone has oh.. a few extra thousand, fly over and meet us    Wouldn't that be wonderful

Of course it would be wonderful to meet my fellow Aussies; I'm hoping.

KC

If you are keen I really encourage you to start one, even if you have just three families to begin with. Small is much easier to begin with anyway.

I have looked with longing all these years, Erin! It is so wonderful! And then I remember how I don't camp.

But seriously, so much of the structure reminds me of the Trapp Family's music summer camps. So neat to hear (and see) that people can do such a thing in modern day and age!

When I say 'camp' don't be picturing me in a tent

I shall be sleeping in a cabin, on a bed with mattress, with sheets and my own doona.

Perhaps I should actually read posts before I comment!

If we ever manage a trip to Australia, we'll probably be camping in your yard, Erin

So how do you do something like that with various ages of kids without giving the mom a headache?

Hi Erin,

Are you able to tell me a little more about the camp? It sounds great... We're in Vic.

Not sure if we'd get there as we usually go to the Ballarat to Bendigo pilgrimage at end of October.

I spotted Fr.T-M N on some of the photos on your journal - is he always there?

Look forward to hearing from you !

God Bless,

Emily.

Emily

Hi Fr T-M N has been our priest from the very first year, simply put we can't have the camp without him Sometimes we may have two priests but always Fr T-M. We have actually looked at putting our camp back to October (would suit my dh better) but can't because Fr T-M is down at the Ballarat/Bendigo pilgrimage then.

What sort of questions did you have in mind?

Taking a stab: Ages of children, babies up to young adults, the amount fluctuates and varies each year. I'm expecting my dd16 will be one of the oldest this year.

Itinery -
Breakfast,
Mass,
Morning Tea
Catechtical Instruction (split into 3-4 groups, some with Fr)
Free Time
Lunch
Afternoon Activities vary, organised events, crafts, more free time.
Time at the Beach
Tea
Rosary
Benediction
Night time activites.

We have the Confirmation Mass on the Tuesday and the Bishop comes back and gives a talk to the parents after lunch.

Feel free to ask more questions

Hi Erin,
We would love to come, would have to check with dh as far as work committments. Benedict is hopfully recieving First Holy Communion this Divine Mercy Sunday at the 3 day Divine Mercy Procession at Tarcutta.

You never know, I am cramming for it; although we have been preparing him all his life.

I don't think we will be heading up that way this Christmas like usual, but a trip earlier might be better - family & camp. Let me know the details and I'll talk to dh.

I haven't been to one of your camps for a while. The kids and dh went in 07 whilst I was in hospital with Augustine - but not me.

Chemai

It would be so wonderful if you could come

Can you pm me your email address and I'll forward you a brochure with prices etc. We have just finalised it all.

I really can't believe Benedict is old enough to be making his FHC!!! Time goes too fast.

Just bumping this up to let our new Aussies members know all about it, spots have filled up fast and we have only one cabin left!

I'm getting very excited as I will be getting to meet a very special lady on this board

It would be lovely to meet new members, I know some of our new members have littles and may be shy about coming, we actually have three new families coming to camp with all children under 5 so you won't be alone.

It sounds like a lot of fun!

We can't make it this year, but now that I know about it, we can keep it in mind for future years.

Oh Erin, Just seeing this and lamenting that we won't be able to make the trip up..
I would but I think some of the family are a little worn-out, not to mention our psychotic transit van
Although of late it has been behaving itself much better than earlier in the year; but we won't put that to the test.
I'm sure someone else will fill that lucky last spot!!

Did you go to Fr Peter Wood's ordination??

love to all
C
