Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We just watched some Painted Ladies emerge from their chysalids, have done a great little unit study on butterflies from www.treasureboxpress.com and are now looking for some good book recommendations to further the fun. Anyone have any favorites to recommend? We have plenty identification books, etc.... but just about anything else would be welcome.

Thanks,
Kathleen

A beautiful picture book is The Butterfly House by Eve Bunting.

The Butterfly Alphabet Book is a beautiful book and amazing that they found all the letters in patterns on butterfly wings. Fascinating.

There is a chapter on monarch butterflies in the book Spring Moon by Jean Craighead George. It's part of her series which features an animal for each full moon of the year. Great reading.

We have a book called Where Butterflies Grow by Joanne Ryder and illustrated by Lynne Cherry. It's a picture book with nice illustrations that covers the change from caterpillar to butterfly in a story-like format. At the end there is a long two-page description of how to grow butterflies in your garden.

Oh, and this is a lovely book Dragonfly, Beetle, Butterfly, Bee - about 1/4 of it covers the butterfly. Lots of interesting information about butterflies and the pictures are gorgeous. Good for a nature study and as a source of inspiration for drawing/painting butterflies.
