I know we've touched upon this dilemma now and again, I just wanted to see if anyone has made any progress.
I saw this post (love her blog) and followed the link to Blurb ... I haven't looked the site over thoroughly yet. I just thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone else is on a similar quest to document their blog is some way.
I have thought of printing out pages and inserting them in a binder, but I can't even imagine the work that would go into doing that.
Has anyone backed up their blog electronically? (I have no idea what the proper terms would be - external drive, hard drive, disc - something like that ).
Thanks for any ideas!

Here is the actual page that talks about slurping blogs into books. I see pricing begins at $12.95 for 40 pages ... this might not be economical after all!

I loooooove this project. I might do this for my year anniversary. Dawn, have you hit that year already? This would be such a great treasure for your children one day.

March 22nd, if memory serves. I agree, it would be wonderful to save these blog entries for our kids!

Wow! I have to look more at Blurb tonight! I've been wanting to post about this. I too thought of the binder and I thought about printing out the text and putting real copies of pictures with it into a scrapbook. These options seem like a lot of work. I'm interesting in backing it up electronically only so that I don't lose everything I've written, but I'd rather some type of hardcopy that would be easy to grab and snuggle on the couch with when the mood strikes.
Jenn, I think the one year anniversary is a good idea. Mine is coming up in the middle of June. I have plenty of time...

You know, this has me thinking. The whole PROCESS of blogging is what I enjoy. It is the day to day conversations and inspiration. I rarely look at my own archives. One day though - I will see it as so interesting the evolution that has taken place since I began last summer. Am I making any sense?
My point is - this whole experience has drastically changed my personality and my life overall.
Has anyone had this same expereince?

My personal computer guy (Husband) took a look at it for me and here is some of what he found. He searched specifically for a Blogger blog, but I wonder if Typepad wouldn't have similar options.
1. You can send every post you create without comments using BlogSend to yourself in email form and even sort them and save them by labels or date.
2. Blogger offers detailed instructions on how to back up your blog to your desktop. You can find it in their help section.
3. Mac users: There is a program in development right now called WebGrabber. It would also allow you to grab whole websites and download them to your desktop.
He is going to look into some more options and I will let you know what he finds. I love the idea of having a hard copy. Maybe there are more affordable options.

My one-year blogging anniversary is on Saturday! I started out on homeschoolblogger, and the process of switching completely over to Typepad is creating a sort of backup for me. However,I looked in Typepad's help files and found this:
It is a good idea to periodically back up your account content, including weblog posts, TypeLists, images and files. While TypePad does have some tools available to help, you may want to take a few extra steps to ensure your backup is complete.
Backing Up Your Weblogs
TypePad features an Export tool that allows users to download their weblog posts as a plain-text file. This is the most important aspect of backing up your weblogs. You can find more information on this in Exporting Your Weblog Content.
Exporting your weblog content does not backup any of the templates associated with your account or files inserted into your posts. There is not a way to backup Basic templates currently, but users with Advanced Templates may want to copy and paste their existing templates into new text files.
Files that have been uploaded in weblog posts are available via the File Manager in Control Panel > Files. Click through your weblog's folder and look for the "files" folder. From there, you can right click and "Save target as" on each file's link to download the file to your computer.
Lastly, you may want to save copies of the pages themselves as an additional backup. Go to each of the archive pages in your browser and go to File > Save As > Web Page Complete to save copies to your computer. This can include any files in your posts depending on your settings when saving your pages.

I was just looking around the Blurb site, and it reminded me of Lulu.com. I didn't see an easy way to import a blog to Lulu, but I only looked for a short time. (There are some blogs published by lulu though. I'm not familiar with this particular blog, but as an example: http://www.lulu.com/content/172658) It might be an option to look in to.
I also saw a post some time ago about someone who sent there blog to a copy shop like Kinko's (done all online) and had them print it out. Possibly another option.....
If/when I ever blog consistently, I'd like to have a hard copy of it as well.

You know, I have no idea how many pages of blog I actually have. I passed my 1 year anniversary in January, I think... sort of... I actually started blogging on Three Plus Two in Sept. of 2005, but then let it drop with the birth of the twins, went over to homeschoolblogger for a little while in January, and then discovered that people were actually visiting my typepad site even though it hadn't been updated in months! So who knows when my actual anniversary is.
Remembering some of the posts I wrote early on makes me cringe a little, but I guess I'd still like my kids to have a copy when they're older. I was thinking of at least printing out some of the nature entries and posts about what we did to file as part of our homeschooling record at the end of the year. But I haven't yet. I also haven't printed out my daily log... not sure I'd want to spend a lot of money on the daily log, but it *is* supposed to be my record of what we actually did. So I do need a hardcopy.
