We have been continuing our study of the rosary using paintings of each mystery.Does anyone else do this? At present we are looking at the first Luminous Mystery. We printed out paintings from the net and laminated them. They stay on our Rosary bulletin board which is near our altar for a week then go in to a folder which is titled Art of the Rosary!! I find it really has helped when they are little if they can look at an image while we pray as it saves the squinching and blinking when they are told to close their eyes! Anyway I am happy to share the file for this week if anyone would like them

I do something like this. No picture study yet but it's on the list. I wanted a book with my favorite fine art illustrating the Rosary, but now I'm using the blog format to create a sort of serial tour through the mysteries.
Here's the link--it's not done yet and won't be for a while but you can see the work in progress.

We started something like this a long time ago---a rosary notebook where we put color copies of great masters that touch on the subject of each mystery, such as Ghirlandaio's "Nativity" for the 3rd Joyful Mystery, or Lippi's "Annnciation"for the First Joyful Mystery and so on. Some of the mysteries are tougher to find in art than others(which is why our notebook has languished for a while), but it IS a helpful "visual aid" for saying the rosary, and the kids familiarize themselves with great works of art at the same time.
Actually, now that I think of it, maybe I'll put one of my older children on an art-finding mission---looking for pictures for the rosary notebook---during these lazy summer days (a little Stealth RE & Art History!)
Thanks for reminding me of this project!

I think it would be great if those who have a favorite piece of art for different mysteries would link them here (or post as pictures). It would be a great place to keep a resource of them all together for future reference (like Alison did with the Baptism of the Lord one above). Rebecca and I will be doing a comparison of various Assumption paintings for the August Artist Study in the Art forum. I'll link it to this thread when we post. Hopefully that will provide some ideas families could for that one.
A couple years ago, Faith and Family magazine did a series of full page pictures for each mystery (one mystery per issue). I cut those out an laminated them. It was really nice to have them all collected like that. Most were from famous peices of art though the Sorrowful Mysteries were pictures from Passion of the Christ.

Here is one for the Transfiguration (which is current as the feast is coming up, too.)

Really good thread!! I plan to do a special unit/focus on the rosary in October and plan to use Seton Art 5 (does not have Luminous Mysteries) as a spine. I also found this website that has alot of links to paintings/icons/etc. to depict the mysteries as well as other stories in the bible. The link is http://www.textweek.com/art/art.htm. Scroll down to New Testment/Greek Bible and click, you may select from a number of stories/events/mysteries in the different gospels for a variety of art paintings/etc.
I do want to note that the rest of the website has a variety of scripture, sermons, and lectionary from not only Catholic sources, but Episcopal, Lutheran, & United Methodist. I found it interesting to see the readings were similar.
