It was so great to see you all last week.
Baby It's Cold Outside...
Yes, there is finally a chill in the air here in sunny Arizona, woo hoo!
New blog post : Hardball life
Saturday Aiden had a yard sale here so we got rid of most of our clutter. Yes! My fall cleaning project is almost finished. I think of you all when the organizing containers keep pouring in via Amazon Prime .
Two baseball tournaments this weekend will keep me out of trouble.
What's up?
Love,

Well, our freezer is full from a successful deer season. Between dh and oldest ds we got 3. We gave away the third one to a friend because we didn't have the freezer room and I don't think we can eat three. Dh said he would only get a big buck when he went out last weekend since we didn't need anymore meat and of course he got one.
Busy week with doc appointments! I was behind and didn't take care of them when I was suppose too, so I finally got them all scheduled. I have another one Friday. It really messes up our school days! I will need to go a year a half again to get them all schedule back during summer break. Ugh! Everyone is failing math this week, but I will blame it on my absence!
Looking forward to our break next week! I am thinking we will continue our read aloud for history because we are taking a break from history until next year, but we still have a few more days of reading left before we are at a good stopping point. Maybe I can fit in some math games too. Our advent season will be school light and I'm looking forward to this new approach.
Off to the library! Didn't plan to go, but couldn't renew a book that was due today.

Oh, glorious Wednesday!!! I love this day because i get to tack on another week on the pregnancy calendar! 37 weeks today!!!!
YAY!
Things are wrapping up here for the trimester. We did really well on everything except for Science. It was just too hard to get to everything but that is okay, the kids love it and so we'll do a lot of reading aloud with it over our Christmas break and when a baby is sitting in our laps!
(Can you tell I'm getting excited???)
My Christmas knitting is in full swing right now and I knit the cutest berets for my daughters in Christmas green and they are so excited to wear them this year.
Oh, let me link it Columbia Beret
I am still trying to figure out which patterns to make for the boys????? Last year they got Milo vests but I think I just want to make some type of accessory like a hat.
Off to take a lovely afternoon nap.

Missoula Children's Theatre is in town.. I have 6 kids in the production of the Tortoise and the Hare. Yes it's totally crazy for the week we're doing this.. they have 2 rehersals each day.. for 2 hours.. the first couple of days it's only the kids with the most parts there for both.. but from here on out it's everyone except the very youngest kids (the 5,6,7 yr olds) who only get the earlier rehersal each day.. until Saturday when they have the whole day for dress rehersal and 2 performances.. BUT then we're DONE. So it's fun and while crazy, short enough to live through it
And Thanksgiving is stressing me out.. why is it that people think that apparently they can just change around what's going on without even bothering to consult us??? So now I'm having to juggle stuff.. again.
Thanksgiving is just too early this year.. everything feels folded in on top of each other

Jodie, we love Missoula! My kids have been it for two years but decided to sit this year out. Enjoy the play!
We had a dump of snow here on the weekend. I think we had over a foot. The kids were able to make tunnels through the snow, we called them hobbit holes. I ventured out to town yesterday thinking that it would be safe but I got stuck twice right in town. Thank goodness for 4 wheel drive.
We are having a relaxing week with an exciting ending. We are going to the big city on Friday to see 'Wizard of Oz.' The theatre we are going to is a theatre in the round so the stage is in the middle and the audience is gathered around. The actors make use of the aisles as well. It is so much fun!
One last thing, we made our first Christmas craft this morning. I got it from Pinterest. We spread glue on Christmas tree bulbs and then rolled them in glitter. We put the glitterfied bulbs in a bowl and that is our table centerpiece. It was easy peasy and lots of fun.

Let's see, not much going on at our place. The weather got warmer, which is not common this time of year, but now we are finally back to normal "football" weather.
We all had eye appointments, which turned out well. Lots of activities this week: AHG - make Thanksgiving trees, a trip to the Art Museum for a guided tour (love, love our local Art Museum, especially the Picaso and Chagall), made scarfs at our women's group for Scarf-It-Up, and have been working on getting our local hs group online.
For those that have helped me along my journey back to church, I've been to two masses in a row. Lots of just to get through, but I'm always so happy for His gifts of strength during the trial.
Lots of fun stuff planned this weekend, and hopefully we get someone to look at the house again. We lowered the price in hopes of attracting a buyer.
Julia, that theater sounds really cool!
I hope you all have a pleasant week!

I am so upset about this right now! I can't make a decision on where to go for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm leaning towards my family because my brother and his family will be here and they live 3 hours away so we don't see them too often. There's no way I'm giving up time with the most adorable nephew in the world! All that I know is I can't be at two places at once and dh and I aren't in agreement on where that one place should be.

Ladies, I've enjoyed reading what your up to... some cute ideas here:
Mimi, those berets are adorable. I've been knitting & crocheting for the girls in my life that I've had to put a few vests for the boys in my Ravelry library (now just to get to them )
Julia, your Christmas table center piece sounds so easy and doable
And I'm right with you ladies about Thanksgiving. I'm stressing for different reasons. 1: dh will be missing Thanksgiving for the first time since we've been married and 2: as a result both sides of the family agreed to come to our house so I don't have to drive over 100 miles going to two dinners (very nice of them but it does mean I'm hosting )
Definitely several degrees cooler around here. At park day last Friday all the moms huddled in 60 degree weather making fun of each others cold weather wimpyness

Oh, the beret! I was in the shower this morning thinking I needed to knit a few hats for some elderly aunts who live in New York Those would be great for them!
Thanksgiving is always with my parents but since they now live with us, it's at our house. I do all the cooking, but sometimes when I'm in the kitchen while everyone else just sits watching football all afternoon, it doesn't turn into a fun day for me.
And, it's finally cold enough to wear socks! My feet get so dry without socks.

Well, any day it's above zero is a good day and it is currently 1 degree F so...
Things are humming along here in a very relaxed way, which makes me happy. Ds (17) will be visiting out-of-town friends for Thanksgiving so it'll just be me, dh, dd and one guest. Can't get much more relaxed than that!

Revise your menu And hand out cooking assignments.. you have lots of people (including kids that have to do what you tell them.. more or less) to help. Roast turkey, mashed potatoes and a cooked veggie aren't any more work than a regular meal.. and kids can do the potatoes. Then you add in special things ONLY IF you want to spend the time doing it OR someone else volunteers to make it.
ETA - and paper plates and plasticware are your friends

Enjoying some cooler weather here off and on. It's sad how excited I get when I can turn on my gas fireplace
Wrapping up some Christmas shopping and sorting through Advent books.
Each year I buy a new (to us) Advent book for each of my kids for St. Nicholas Day. Today I had the very sobering and somewhat frightening thought that someday when they leave home they might want to take their books with them
And then what will I do?

Loving the cooler weather. Gradually doing my autumn/pre-Advent cleaning (man, do we generate dust in this house!).
It's been a nice week with some good school days. I just bought some new math and other learning-ish apps for the computer for the kids to play with, which we've been enjoying -- my 8yo got up early this morning to do her independent schoolwork so that she could play the math games in addition to her regular math. We've also been skating with a bunch of families we met at our YMCA Gym and Swim program. My 8- and 10yos are excited to have met some new friends.
We're staying home for Thanksgiving this year, which I'm completely happy about. Our college girl is coming home, and it will just be us. I guess I need to buy a turkey and think about what we're going to eat, but mostly I'm looking forward to being all together in our own house for the weekend.
Our AHG troop is having a fundraising Christmas sale this weekend: salt-dough ornaments, little manger ornaments made out of popsicle sticks, ornaments where you wrap string around a balloon and glue it, then pop the balloon and decorate the string ball you've made . . . last week the girls spent ages bagging and pricing and inventorying everything. We've been a very poor (monetarily) little troop so far, but the girls are working hard to be able to do fun things together, and also having fun working together.
I'm really enjoying sitting up late by myself in my quiet house, but this is such a bad habit! Must . . . go . . . to . . . bed . . .
Sally

It's pretty cold here...Dancing Daughter is having dry skin issues, and the cold weather is not helping her. Her regional championships are looming, so we're a bit stressed around here. If you can spare a prayer, we'd appreciate it very much. (San Vito/St. Vitus is the patron saint of dance...DH and I lived in Italy, long ago, while he was stationed at San Vito Air Station, so we figure it's all connected!)
We are struggling with Thanksgiving logistics, too, in a different way...squishing a celebration in between a zillion dance practices is tough. (I should not complain, as Dancing Daughter reminds me...in the dance region to our north, regional championships take place in Philly over Thanksgiving weekend, every single year. I am blessed to be able to spend Thanksgiving with beloved friends and with my son...haven't seen him since mid-August.)
Many people I know or have connections to are still struggling with post-Sandy power issues, work issues (workplace floods = no income) and more. Trucks continue to head north from my state to NY and NJ with relief supplies...if this isn't a warning to us all that we need to plan as though we are our own disaster relief, I don't know what is.
Here are some fun and almost-fun things to teach your children this winter that can help them weather a natural disaster later in life:
How to call 911 and how to call your utility companies to report outages (no, this is not fun...but everyone should know how to call for emergency help!
Start and maintain a fire (in a fireplace or outside)
Locate the fuse panel and reset blown breakers (it's a puzzle, in a way)
Use a manual can opener and pantry supplies to cook a one-pot meal (chili, for example)
Use the following manual tools/gadgets: can opener, wooden matches, magnesium fire starter, pocket knife (of course, young children should not use matches, fire starters or knives...parents should decide when their children are ready), vegetable peeler, hand drill (if you have one), crank radio (same).
Play games that don't require computers, electrical power or outdoor space...get creative!

Yes, cold nights here now - great for snuggling under the fleece blanket and drinking a chai latte and watching Six Million Dollar Man season 2 episodes (oops, did I just admit that? )
No Thanksgiving plans. Looking for invitations - might start calling friends tomorrow...

Jodie, for several years we have been doing MISSOULA THEATER, too! So fun!
Frost has hit the ground here! Last night we watched White Christmas...such a lovely movie!
Our girls are in the play, Annie, which requires a lot of driving but happy to do it!
Been reading The Way by Jose Maria Escriva very slowly and taking it all in.
Last night we had a roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad by candlelight. What a blessing!

Oh! I watched that the other evening too. I lost my boys about 30 minutes into it though. They kept asking, "I thought this was about Christmas?" They were in bed by the time the movie got to Christmas Eve, but I yelled at them that the movie was at Christmas now. They didn't care at that point. I'm sure that evening would have been different if I had girls!

We'll I've been drowning in cleaning projects, I started one and it all snowballed and I'm still at it weeks later.
Shed- (took 2 days and done)
Shipping container -(took 4 days but done) I decided after living here for 6 years it was time to turn the container into seasonal storage not long term, if we weren't needing it then it went
so the shipping container led to 20 boxes of books donated but another 10 made it into my home library so then....
Home Library - had to find a home for all those books, so lots had to go and the grandchildren boxes keep accumulating.
Yes I'm collecting boxes for my grandchildren I know I don't have any yet, probably wont' for a few years but still
So home library is all done but the top three shelves that run all the way around the room at roof height. (taken over a week pottering away)
So then of course other 'stuff' came down from container like pictures and they still need to be hung, more clutter. and toys- plastic mechano from my childhood.
then a lady at church donated a van load (no exaggeration) of action men figures and their vehicles, now sorted and friend has taken lots too to pass on, thank goodness.
In the midst of this we've started a new building project, we're planning on laying floor boards in a couple of the bedrooms this weekend. So the boards have to be cleaned (second hand) and sawn and stacked in preparation. All this is of course done in my dining room!! So all week I;ve had piles of timber in my dining room and had to clamber over the piles to get into the school book cupboard.
This of course means that furniture is squished into another room and I have to move all the furniture and toys out of the bedrooms before tomorrow. and of course now the 'toy room' has to be cleaned and culled to fit on the new toys. but then the 'toyroom' is going to be our bathroom and the plumber is coming sometime real soon so they need a new home, actually three other 'rooms'(wet areas ones) need clearing out for the plumber, building supplies etc. oh the joys of living on a building site.
Anyhow if you're still here the good news is whilst I've been slowly unravelling this last week, muttering about drowning under 'stuff' I'm feeling positive today, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I think cleaning the library helped, and dh can't understand why I didn't just shut the door on the whole matter... aside from the fact I couldn't due to books in front, I needed to do it, do you understand?
