Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wasn't sure where to put this ... mods move if you need to ...

but I wondered if y'all had seen the latest announcment from Serendipity? Seems Elizabeth and Jennifer MacKintosh have created a curriculum for girls 11-15 that they'll be using ... it's very cool!

Congrats and thanks, ladies.

Oh, and by the time my Maggie is 11 (1-1/2 years) I'll know exactly where to head ....

Y'all are the best!

Thank you so much, Mary! It was really a labor of love and we are so thrilled to share it!

I did want to mention that my daughter will be in 9th grade next year, so her second year of this curriculum will be for high school credit. Actually, the entire Natural History course (which is 2 years long - one year focusing on Botany, one year on Zoology) is for high school credit in science for her. If any of you have early high school age young ladies, this course has plenty of potential for high school credits. Just wanted to mention that.

Thank you all for your kind words! I love sharing!

I hope I didn't make it seem too intense just now!

I think one of the things Elizabeth and I love about this curriculum is that it is so flexible and able to accomodate a variety of learning needs and speeds...so if you have a middle school age daughter, you wouldn't need to dig in to Natural History quite as much as my daughter who has a real desire and love for this subject.

I just wanted to clarify myself and say that the courses are so flexible. The booklists are there, you can substitute anywhere and still keep the basic flavor and spirit of the curriculum following along with Anne.

Jennifer and Elizabeth,

This curriculum is so beautiful. Thank you so much all the work you have put into this. You have just taken a huge load off my shoulders.

Off to order some books!

You two are absolutely amazing. I can't wait until my oldest gets to be that age. It seems perfect for her:)

Great Job

Jennifer, I just got a chance to look at the two plans listed Mary Beth's and Sarah's plans. Amazing.

I love the inclusion of David Elkind in the child development... Now I'm thinking I may try to find a way to squeeze in some Piaget as well.

I have questions!

For those of us who are not as nature study gifted, what do you envision a week's schedule looking like for the botany course?

And from this on the Serendipity web site:

"However, both our young ladies have enjoyed a more focused approach in which they complete some Religion, Math, and Latin daily, while choosing the remainder of the day to focus time and attention on one other subject at a time, moving through Literature, History, Natural History, Homemaking and Hospitality choices at their own pace."

Are you envisioning one subject a day, 4-5 days a week? History, Botany, Literature, Home Ec, and Child Development/Nutrition once a week, for a couple of hours? I've never schooled that way before, but I do like the idea of it. What does that look like, practically?

Books,
We let the girls plan their days. I gave Mary Beth the document with Sunflower Basket books and notes and handed her the Good News planner. Then, I let her plan. We'll see how it goes. She considered her time away from home assisting in an atrium and the days that she has dance. She divided out chapters and pages and threw herself into plotting it all (I wonder where she gets that ). I'm sure her next lesson will be "The Joy of Tweaking."

Jen's Sarah did her planning in iCal.

I'm very excited about this ... I'm going to use it with my Maggie starting next year -- which gives me a year to collect everything and tweak it just for her! It's good, true and beautiful .... what more could I want?

This is wonderful! What a blessing that you have shared with us all. We're several years away from this... but isn't it a relief knowing that it is out there, ready when we are?

I wish I were in the ninth grade taking that course.

Just when I think I'm content having all boys...

Wow! I just spent about an hour reading through these lesson plans! I love the Anne of Green Gables series and have since I was in high school! I wish this had been out there for me.

I'm reading the posts this morning about the new lesson plans and then reading the threads of you all planning the upcoming year and it makes me want to plan too! Except my baby isn't here yet and I have no other children yet. My years of homeschooling and planning are far off

What a gift from you ladies! I'm excited to be able to benefit from Jennifer's gentle wisdom in this new way. My daughter is only two. Maybe I'll audit the course myself this year

My feelings exactly! Well, I do have a girl but she is a little too old for this. (Sigh...)
