Anyone up for it? I was thinking we'd pick a wine that's available commonly, not too expensive and enjoy it, then write a few lines about it. Anyone have an idea? Does anyone get Wine Spectator, or a similar magazine, and want to start? Let's do one that might go well with Easter dinner, try it, and do the "critique" if that' OK.
Who's in?

I'm up for it - now that I'm not pregnant! I can't promise to drink many glasses of said wine though.
I don't get Wine Spectator, but my dad is a big wine man. I can ask him for some suggestions.

Great idea - I'm in! My oldest is the wine expert here . . . not so much because he drinks it but because he serves it and has to know what's what. He likes to bring us different kinds to sample.
What are you thinking Macbeth? Something light or full bodied? Personally I prefer red wine but I'm up for whatever.

Yay! I'm so glad there potential tasters--dh does not drink, and I hate to drink alone!
Cindy, you're hired! I'd love your dad's advice, and none of us has to drink much . Michele, I only wish you were here...I have a real corkscrew .
I usually drink red...and I think red for Easter is correct, right? Goes well with lamb?

Will this be an ongoing thing? 'Cause I'll pop in once in a while, but probably not all the time... and I hope you're not expecting sophisticated reviews or anything, as I probably won't understand or be able to comment on tannins or oakiness or notes of blueberry or any of the other terminology that oenologists use. But we can say "like" or "not like" .
Although if you do use formal terms, I hope it's okay to ask questions so we can understand better? Wow, a 4Real Wine Tasting Course! So exciting!

Sounds fun! We could use some direction.
Dh wanted me to pick up some wine the other day. Before shopping I asked the man if there was a limit on how many bottles one could purchase (like there is on cough syrup) as I wanted to pick up a few so I could have them on hand. He fell off his stool laughing because I was serious!

Nicole, you are too funny! You're supposed to ask for the case discount not the limitations!
Red sounds great, ladies! Perfect for this time of year.

Hey MacBeth !! If you ever misplace that corkscrew...just use a knife. It works just fine...except for the little pieces of cork that tend to float in the bottle .
I'd love to join in!

If you don't mind having a Forum Newbie join you, I would jump in on the adventure when you switch to white wines. (I'm allergic to reds.)
Sounds like fun!!!
Oh yes, and I'm with Steph -- no wine knowledge or sophistication here.

Yep, we're not too sophisticated around here -- red, white and some of it fizzes is about the extent of my knowledge.
I'd love to join in -- MacBeth my dh doesn't drink either so you and I can! I much prefer a red also but I'm with Therese -- no idea about fruitiness, hints of berries or oakiness -- just know what I like.
I'm in.
Oh, Elizabeth, I'm sorry you're allergic to red -- what if we did a red dinner wine and a white dessert wine? Than Elizabeth could participate too!

You are so sweet! However, I'll just jump in at some later date if you shift over to whites.

Can I play too? I love reds. However, we went to a wine tasting class on our cruise and were introduced to some very fine whites (and blushes).
My brother owns a wine tasting bar/shop in Texas. He knows a lot about wine. He sells some of everything. But unfortunately, some of the wines I really like are not available here.
We also serve ham--just cannot get the dc to go for lamb. Perhaps a red and a white? But I am game for anything.

When does this start? Are we tasting "for" Easter or "at" Easter. You know me , easily confused.
My father loves all things wine...the history of wine, the production of wine, the taste of wine, etc. He's a self-taught, amateur wine expert. I can ask his opinion.
I don't drink, but my dh has some cheap wine which he occassionally drinks at suppertime for heart-health.

I'm in! Red goes with anything in our book, and for our family dinners we serve red -- bold. Cabernets, Zinfandels, lately Riojo and blends from Spain. Also like Italian reds.
But I love dry whites from France.
We usually use the Wine column from WSJ for guides, as generally they are inexpensive. But we also do "blind" tests with wines from Trader Joe. And Costco carries some good wines, too.
Budget? Under $30? Under $20? Less?
I'd suggest doing a white and red.

When we got married we were only 19. My parents gave us a bottle of champagne for our 1st Anniversary, but we didn't have a corkscrew. Dh tried getting it off with his thumbs but he was new at it and the cork broke off. He was bound and determine to give his wife a glass of champagne so he got out his drill. I wish I had a picture!
