...do you like them?

I am trying to decide between the Good News planner and the Days of Faith one by Pflaum.

I'm undecided. And there are so many choices - Primary, Elementary?

This would be for a 9 (almost 10) ds, and also a dd6 who can't really read yet but would be quite upset if she didn't have one also.

Would love opinions....

Laura,

I just got the teacher planner for elementary and I can't believe how useful it is ... it will be the portable calendar I'll carry with me and then I'll do the online stuff in the evening for a permanent record.

Laura,

I love this planner, I got the Middle School one for my ds15, it is smaller which works well for him, I got the elementary one for my dd11 and dd7. They like them as well. I also got the teacher planner, there is so much information in the books. We are looking forward to using them.

God Bless

I have only used the Good News Planners, but I have seen the Pflaum ones in person and how a friend used them one year. I like the Good News ones hands down, as they are much more faith-oriented. I would use with the Elementary level for all grades.

Well, I couldn't make up my mind, so I bought four Good News Planners.

Yes, four.

I am the proud owner of both the student and teacher versions for primary and for elementary.

Oh, and I also have one of the Pflaum planners.

Overkill??

Possibly.

For littles, you need the student planner, because the different weekly "fun" pages are not in the teacher version.

The quantity of information in the Good News planner is much more than Pflaum, but Pflaum has some not in Good News. I'm going to combine them.

I really like my teacher planner, although this will be the first year I have officially used a planner. It is a big change from the loose pieces of paper and misc notecard jumble I have been using. My older girls dd(10) and dd(8) are loving their planners. They are so excited to start school, and have been carefully copying days worth of assignments into the planners. I am really hoping dd(10) will start taking ownership for her assignments this year with the help of her handy planner.

I like all the extra information provided...and now it's all in one place!

This is true and I'm so bummed that I didn't know this before I ordered my teacher's planner. I assumed the student planner wouldn't be necessary for my pre-reader, but I wish I had ordered it. And, unfortunately, with their high shipping costs I'm not going to order it separately. Oh well. At least I know for next year.

I do like the teacher planner very much.

so...do I want to get the Teacher's Edition for both Primary and Elementary? Or is just one enough (or are they too specific to their student counterparts?)

Would the Primary Student be a better choice for a Pre-reader?

What is with the split box for Language Arts?

Thanks so much for all your help & opinions - it is appreciated!!!

I had pretty much decided to go with Pflaum before, now I think GN may be a better option. I just hope I use all the extras...

I think you only need the Primary Teacher's edition. It has the student weekly beginning pages for both primary and elementary in it. And get the primary student planner for those fun pages. The column heading for Language Arts is split, not the columns themselves. And only on the elementary edition.

I hope you don't mind a question in the middle of your question, Laura, but looking at these planners got me all excited (I'm the kind that gets all excited with organizational things but can't do a thing with them - Love Going To Office Max, Have No Idea What To Do With The Stuff Once I'm Home, kinda gal). Do your kids write in assignments daily, or just what they haven't completed before time to move on, or what they need to do for the week? I'm trying to envision how these work at home and have visions of classrooms and teachers telling the kids what to write in each box. So far we've come up with a daily checklist that ds would mark off as he finished but these planners looks much more collegate. Mind filling me in how you make this work?

I'm going to have my dd write in what she needs to do for the week, and then mark it off when she is done so I can check it. I like having her "see" it for the week in relation to other events. It helps her plan and organize her time.

To start, my ds will only write down what he has done for the day. It will help if there are any questions down the road relating to what he is being taught.

No problem - I'm the same way. I love all the "organizational" stuff...and I am a total sucker for Planners, calendars, agenda books....But I have some real issues on the follow-thru...

I like the idea of DS being the one to write down his assignments...and using it as a record for my littler one....

hhhhmmmm.....

I had a thought, maybe because you are all so busy here promoting them and boosting up their sales, someone should contact them and organise a discount for 4Realers. Truly it wouldn't hurt to ask. And see what you can do about the postage costs

The postage is what has made me hesitate every single time I have gone to order. I just have a hard time paying almost the same amount in S&H as I am in items. And I know how much it *should* cost to ship them....It is the reason I have not actually purchased any yet...

I have rising 8th and 9th graders. Would you recommend the Good News elementary or jr high planners for them? It looks like the elementary teacher planner would work for either. Do any of you with the planners find that to be true?

Thanks for the help with this!

I like this, Paula. A lot.

I've always written spine plans in a plain notebook and written the completed assignments in their planners. That's what worked for us.

I'm going to need to focus more on my high schooler and first grader this year. The fifth grader has had most of my presence the past couple of years. I think this will work well for her.

I'm making those last minute, frantic purchases as we're beginning school on Friday (15th) instead of the pre-planned Monday (18th) and I found some stuff at this site I could afford for my catechism class so I decided to get planners too.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their input. It has really helped me in deciding what to purchase.
