Elizabeth posted today about these planners Good News Planners. My oldest is going into second grade. Is that still considered primary or is it elementary?

Primary is for preschool, so you would want the elementary.

I have the primary and elementary teacher planners - and I would have thought primary is good for K-2. I am using the teacher planners for both - the primary planner has information for younger kids.

Have you checked out the planner samples online?

I ordered a bunch of these for my kids a month ago. I somehow ordered one extra primary planner if anyone is interested in buying it from me. If you are local (Northern VA!), I can get it to you and you won't have to pay shipping! PM me if you want it.

Has anyone seen the Jr High/High School and the Elementary to compare? On the samples the older version seemed so much less detailed, just a long block for the whole day, no divisions to label with your own classes, no listing area for spelling or vocab words (or other lists - Latin, French, Butterflies, whatever). I can always block out our own blocks but some of the other cool points seemed missing, that combined with the fact that it says it is smaller right when I think we need more space to write...I guess I'm kinda leaning toward the Elem. version! Any opinions?

Jennifer:

I have some of each level. For me I was a bit diappointed in the Jr High/High school version. They are definitely not as "unique" and don't have as many additions as the others. They also lack the space my older kids need. The other versions are fantastic.

Thanks, Maria! I think if I decide to order I'll go with the elem. version then. I really think the Mom planner might have to come home too!

Wow! My homeschool group used to always order the ones from Pflaum - but these are cheaper, and I like them more! Thank you for sharing!!!

I got mine this week--I ordered a primary for my 7 yo and an elementary for my 10 yo. I order the primary teacher planner. The difference in the student planners is that the subjects are labeled in the elementary and not in the primary. The supplements are the same and either teacher manual contains all supplements. I ordered the primary teacher planner because I wanted to be able to label my blocks myself. It has six blank columns for each day of the week. I was able to label: FAITH, FAMILY AM, FAMILY PM, QUINN, GABRIEL, BRENDAN. I'm detailing daily plans in my planner now and then I'll fill in theirs week by week so I can adjust as needed.

Colleen ~

I just want to verify - the Primary and Elementary Teacher's Planner have the SAME resources? On the site it looked like the Primary had both, but the Elementary did not have the Primary info. I've been holding off on my order, until I figured this out.

Thanks ~

Oh, shucks, I knew I couldn't be making as much sense as I thought I did ! I think you are correct, Suz. I think the primary has both and the elementary does not and that is one of the reasons I chose it. I also wanted to be able to label my columns because we do things in blocks rather than each subject each day.

I liked the fill in aspects too. Like Colleen - I am planning (in pencil) for several months in the teacher planner. I am then going to fill the student planners in on a weekly basis.

I too am disappointed with the junior-high planner - my dd specifically requested one - otherwise I would have kept with the elementary.

We are using them for many of our already in place weekly religion study - eg gospel readings for our weekly gospel teas (idea from Dawn), daily saint reading etc. We are using the supplements for Doctors of the Church and fruits of the spirit (which we started in May) I am going to pick Jenn's brain for some ideas on how to do the Gregorian chant requiem mass.

For my little K guy - I did not get one for him - but I did get the Primary teacher planner - I am not sure I would do this in future years though. The elementary teacher planner has most of everything. A friend got the Catechist planner - I will have to ask her what is the extra information in it.

Jennifer, my kids in high school will only use the jr high planners. They don't like the layout of the Elementary ones.

There was a long discussion about these planners on this board about a month ago. We've used them for years, but the shipping cost is very heavy and I'm thinking of trying the similar, but blank ones at Walmart since I can easily add the Sunday readings and information on Doctors of the Church.

I talked to allcatholicbooks about carrying these planners, but after looking into it they decided it wasn't something that would sell that well :(

I was going to mention that about the Jr/Sr planners, they look more mature. They are smaller in size I think because they are made with the thought that kids using backpacks going from class to class are using them. I think they don't have all the "extras" because they are geared younger and look younger. So if you have a child who doesn't want the same planner that their 3rd grade sibling has...then the jr/sr planner is best. But if your older child doesn't care, and you want more room to write, then stick to the elementary.

And you are right too about the shipping. When I pulled together about 20 ladies, from 4Real and my local hs group, we literally each probably saved at least $15 each! It's best to order in bulk if you can!

We ordered the Jr./Sr. High Planners, and I was wondering whether one solid block per day would be enough space, but I think it will be.

I wouldn't want labelled subjects for Jr./Sr. High, because we don't always do the same subjects every day, and our subjects are labelled differently, more by the course title, rather than social studies/math/english type of labels.

I am just going to use the big block every day to write what they need to do in a list. I think it'll work, but we'll see................

Okay, MarieC is trying to pull together a group order for these out our way and I have some questions...

If I were to order a primary for my 1st grader, 2 elementary for my 3rd/4th graders (one is doing 2nd/3rd, the other 3rd/4th, they are always teetering between two levels and working together on many things.) and 2 Jr. High for my 6th and 8th graders, what would I want in the way of a Teacher Planner? Would I want one of each? Will a non-reading 1st grader get alot of use from her own planner?

Also, how handy would this planner be for a child enrolled in Seton? (my oldest will continue with Seton per his request ) These are made for kids in school, right? So it should flow nicely for him?

Thanks!

I can't really speak about the enrolled Seton thing...but I would say Lisa, because I bought the same sort of variety that you mentioned (and I know several 4Real ladies did too) we all seem to have bought the elementary planner. I'm happy with that one. I plan on just using my planner for my things (appt.s, calls to make, clubs to go to, etc).
