Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh, ds and I are going to Leukemia Ball next weekend and I have nothing to wear!!!    I have been looking at the skirts over at ModestWorld. They have satin wrap skirt. Then I could just add a pretty blouse. The price is right even with the expedited shipping. I could then afford to buy make-up.

If not this skirt what?????? Where do you shop for special occasion clothes. The last time I went to a ball I was living in Korea and we had a sew lady who made all my gowns. Before that my mom made all my prom dresses.

I did find some nice skirts at Nordstrom.com. Right now we are iced in and I can't get the car out the driveway to go to the mall. I am beginning to panic!

We are going to the ball as volunteers, but we still have to look nice. Plus this is one event I would love to volunteer at every year! Dh and ds are going to wear tuxes.

It's beautiful! I think you could maybe find tops at JJill or Soft Surroundings...

That skirt would be perfect I think, with a crisp white blouse and a pretty bright scarf! I have one in twill, and it's lovely, very flattering.

Here is a modesty web page that I have use to find good sources for modest clothes of different styles (IMHO, not all of the clothes are perfectly modest though).

They do have a section on formal wear.

I haven't order from here. However, I have email the owner and she was lovely and seems very reputable. I love these 1, 2, 3!

But, truly, I like what you picked out...just adding some other options.

I like it, too...very versatile...later you could pair it with a pretty Christmas sweater or top...

I have a long black skirt...my second (outgrew the first one )...it's my perfect evening item. I have 3 or 4 tops I swap it with and no one knows they're seeing the same skirt every year!

Go for it.

I found this organza skirt set organza skirt set, dress with jacket, mock two piece dressand shadow stripe dress.

Unfortunately, I am still carrying around the extra weight I put on right before Carter finished treatment. If I was 20 pounds lighter it would make this process a whole lot more fun! I hate dressing rooms!

Anyone want to meet at Tyson's this weekend???????

Mary Chris:
That skirt from Modest world is beautiful. My friend has one that she wears to fancier events like this. She wears it with a nice white blouse and a brooch (sp?). It's beautiful.

I really like the Mosdest World skirt but they took three days to answer my email. I am worried they will not get it here by the 24th. My other concern is by the time I order the skirt and find a blouse and pay all the express shipping charges I could get one of the dresses from Nordstrom for less. Plus if I have to return it I can eventually drive to Nordstroms. Oh what to do!!!

I LOVE the satin skirt, it's very elegant and would be beautiful with a red or fuschia blouse if you have something like that! Have fun and let us know what you decide!!

Last time I was at Nordstrom Rack by Dulles airport, they had tons of wintery long formal skirts and dresses on clearance. I'm talking like $35 for a $200+ Ralph Lauren velvet formal skirt. It was a goldmine.

I love the skirt! The only other place I can think of is Coldwater Creek, i.e. if you have one locally.

Have a wonderful time at the Ball!

It is lovely ... and very appropriate for the event. I had the privilege of attending a very formal affair last weekend with my nursing 5 month old (another story!). Anyway, I wore a very similar black skirt with a satin "ruby" blouse from Talbots (on sale for $19.99!). It was perfect and allowed me to nurse when I needed to without having to "rearrange" myself. I was recently visiting the JJill website ...they have some very feminine, beautiful blouses, some even on sale. Good luck!

Now that I think about it, my order DID take a very long time to arrive. That was about a year ago.

I like the shadow stripe dress and the organza skirt set. The others don't fit my vision of you in formal wear...I know that sounds bizarre!

I did buy my latest famous black skirt from Nordstrom.com...actually I've bought a lot of formal wear from them and from Lord & Taylor.

I wish I had free time, grrr! I'd certainly meet you...but you would be meeting me and my little sidekick (and you know how she is!)...not conducive to grownup shopping.

Monday is negotiable, though...

I ordered one (not the satin, that would be too much for my daily chores! ) two weeks ago from Modest World and I received notice that it just shipped, from Isreal, today.

What a dilemma, Mary Chris! I would buy locally, as I understand about the extra weight and ordering online is so iffy with the different figure from the past!!!! I like the idea of a two piece or jacket dress...covers more figure flaws and a bit warmer.

I might be able to get free for some shopping, just have to ask dh. My big plans was to clean out the basement and office. I can tell you what I'd much rather be doing!!! What day are you thinking?
