Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My husband passed on this article from The New Atlantis, Virtual Friendship and the New Narcissism by Christine Rosen. While the article is directly dealing with sites like My Space and Facebook, I found some of the observations and insights applicable to my world. I found lots of food for thought and contemplation in the world of forums and blogs.

I recommend printing out the .pdf file to read.

I just skimmed over it. There was an article along the same lines in the Wash Post a few weeks ago that gave me a lot to think about. I'll have to print out the .pdf file and check it out.

Ooooh, I'm really interested in reading this tonight! I have often told Bill that if I had a blog it would be "an exercise in narcissism." I'm interested to see what this is all about.

I'm starting the 17 pages printing now and setting my guardian angel over my printer while I'm at karate. Thanks, Jenn!

17 pages. The article I read in the Post wasn't that long. Rachel, I'll save my ink and swap HP7 for the article.

wow, I'm sorry I did not come across this article sooner; lots of food for thought. I'm going to reread this slowly when I have the time later today and tomorrow, I know dh will be very interested!!
with regards to blogs- I still can't believe how many beautiful and rich blogs there are out there by Catholic homeschool moms. But why is is that if I read about an idea or an accomplishment on a forum such as this, or a yahoo group- I feel so differently than if I read about it on someone's blog? When I read blogs I get an antsy, "I'm not good enough" type feeling. Other moms have mentioned the same thing. This is not to knock blogging, just wondering if this article is on to something that I could not quite verbalize before now!!

Our blog has been a way of connecting with family and friends - we have moved a lot and blogging has allowed a connection to continue. And many of thse are non Catholic - they have emailed me and told me they appreciate learning about Catholicism via the posts on the liturgical year...So, sometimes, it is not only narcissim.
