Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Inspired (again) by Dawn's blog, I'm trying to put together a spring booklist for my 3 year old. What do you recommend?

Thanks!

I don't know if this book is available in English, but it is just beautiful.

Pelles Neue Kleider - Pelle's New Clothes

It is about a little boy who has a lamb, cuts its wool, brings it to his mother to spin, oma to weave, uncle to dye the wool........until he has a brand new suit. All the while he is helping the adults who are helping him.
I think it is a good book for a 3 year old and older.

Stephanie, it is. We love that book, too!

Another book by Elsa Beskow (how I love her books) is Ollie's Ski Trip, which I know does not sound like a spring book, but it has wonderful imagery for this time of year, when winter is still lingering and we're wishing the snow would be gone. By the end of the tale, Old Mrs. Thaw has come to sweep away the remnants of Winter and make way for Spring.

Dawn, we love that book too! - especially my 3 yr old. You are right about it fitting in for this time of year - which I honestly never thought of. We always seem to concentrate on the snow fun, probably because we don't have any of our own snow here!

The lovely mom at Painted Rainbows and Chamomile Tea is, to my mind, the picture book queen. She always has loads of wonderful ideas and books. Here's a post on her bird study.

Here are some of our favorites from the past couple of years.

My girls love Elsa Beskow's books too.

The Mothers Day Mice by Eve Bunting. It is illustrated by Jan Brett. It is one of our very favorites.

Swan Harbor A Nature Counting Book by Laura Rankin
I like the illustrations and all the nature facts in the back of the book. I am not a nature person so having a son who is all about the outdoors makes life very interesting for me!

Same bear and his forest friends, but this time it's spring. Great contrast to previous book to illustrate change of seasons. This is my two year old's favorite.

Lost in the Woods by Carl Sams and Jean Stoick
This uses stunning photographs to illustrate the story. It is about a baby fawn in spring.

Two books we found at the library last week that we really enjoyed are:

and

Benjamin's Treasure

Both are lovely stories for spring!

I had to post about a beautiful picture book I found yesterday at Barnes and Noble. It's called All Things Bright and Beautiful.

The words of that 1848 ode are lovely of course, but the illustrations in this rendition -- vibrant watercolors -- are gorgeous!! I thought it was a nice book for this time of year.
