Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone have the IEW poetry program? Thoughts?

Or am I better off just coming up with my own program? I am looking for an introduction for a kindergartner

We have the program and we love it! We have not always done it consistently, but my kiddos have memorizied a lot of poems.

I LOVE this program, but my dc that participate are 7, 9, and 12. My 5 year old has picked up some, but the poems quickly become more than he can handle. He's a young K, but I would still say the prgram is geared toward older kids.

fwiw
They learn the poems fairly quickly following IEW's guidelines. My favorite part, though, is that it is a shared experience. They presented a round-robin recitation of the Jabberwocky for my mom. They even pulled in dc 5 and 3 to say "caloo calay!"
It is NOT mom intensive and can be done completely without mom if needed (or desired ).
I also love that my kids are learning intonation, articulation and correct pronunciation from Pudewa.

The best part about the program are the cds. We memorized poetry for years but never memorized as many without the cds.

Linguistic Development Through Poetry Memorization

Love it - thanks for reminding me to use it with my 5 year old.

I second what everyone else has said..

Here my four yr. old dd and 2yr old ds are reciting the first poem.

EVERYONE from ages 13-2 loves doing poetry now.
