We are using Mondays with Mary, and since she only has one Marian Feast for October (Our Lady of the Rosary, pp 78-81), we will be bumping up some of the summer feasts to fill in the other 3 weeks.

I made a handout listing resources for learning about the Rosary. I have pasted the information in below. If possible, could the link fairy fix the links?
Rosary Resources

* Make an Edible Rosary out of mini-cupcakes, muffins, or candy.
* Our Lady of the Rosary (Feast Day October 7) coloring page by Charlotte
* A set of 20 prints of the Mysteries of the Rosary can be purchased from Leaflet Missal. The illustrations can be made into a small book, assembled as a flip chart, displayed using holy card holders, hung on a wall, or glued into small boxes and adorned. The illustrations can be purchased in two sizes 4” x 6” (ITEM #09316 $10.00/set) and 8” x 11” (ITEM #01996 $27.00/set).
* A Set of 20 prints of the Mysteries of the Rosary can also be downloaded for free
* One of the loveliest ideas I have ever seen for praying the rosary with children is the use of crocheted roses with baskets shown at the following site: Praying the Rosary with Little Ones
* An idea for making a Rosary boxes for small children to use in learning the Rosary or following along while others pray the Rosary can be found at: Rosary Box
I realize some of these ideas have been referenced in the thread already but I left them in so they would be in one place.

Below are some books we have used for learning about St. Francis.
* The Song of St. Francis by Tomie de Paola. For the youngest children, this book tells about St. Francis singing to the animals.
* A Gift from Saint Francis: The First Creche by Joanna Cole. This beautifully illustrated book tells the story of how St. Francis sought to bring the Nativity story to life.
* The Good Man of Assisi by Mary Joslin.
* Francis: The Poor Man of Assisi by Tomie de Paola. A very detailed retelling of the life of St. Francis. I would recommend this for upper elementary aged children.
* St. Francis by Brian Wildsmith. Beautiful illustrations and simple text. Discusses Francis’s efforts to stop fighting in the Holy Land and his receiving the stigmata.
* Canticle of the Sun: A Hymn of St. Francis of Assisi by Fiona French. Beautifully illustrated using mosaics, this picture book sets out St. Francis’s hymn Canticle of the Sun.

He hadn't rec'd it, yet, so he couldn't review it. Amazon has high ratings.

I plan to do a mystery a day for the month of October. We are devoted to St. Therese (the previous owner of our home was very devoted to her. My husband found this house through her intercession. I have a vague idea of making something that is a rosary that we can make from images of flowers instead of round beads to begin on St. Therese's feast day and continue through the whole month.
I'm sort of torn about whether to do something out of paper or something more permanent out of felt. A table runner? Placemats for each of us? Still pondering. It would be nice to have the boys help me make something we will use.

I'm posting the Link-Tutorial here for you, so you can add all your helpful links in the future and be as Link-Happy as you please!!!! There is just no such think as "too-many-links"!! 
********How to add a Link***********
Look in the little box where you would normally enter a reply. There are several helpful buttons here. Do you see the one that has a CHAIN LINK over a GLOBE - that's the button you'll need to push to add a link. Click it.
It asks you for the "the on screen display text for the Hyperlink"...this means what do you want it to say when someone reads your link....I could have entered shelf, or display shelf...I chose to use the description on the Target page so I entered "Kidcraft Sling Bookshelf". Now, click OK. You aren't quite done...one more step!
The little window now wants the web address for your link - it says "Enter the URL address to create Hyperlink to". Copy the address for the web page exactly as you see it and enter it in this section. Click OK.
You've made a link!
A couple of tips -
** links are always added to the very end of the body of text....so if you've been typing away and you suddenly remember you want to add a link, you can do that, but your link is going to show up at the very end of your typing, not necessarily where you placed your cursor to make that link. You'll just need to make the link and then copy and paste it where you want it.
** you cannot just copy a web address and drop it in the body of text at 4Real and have it be an active or hot link. The code for our forums **automatically** inserts a space at random in the code disabling it. If you want to insert a link somewhere, you'll have to use the little link button! And, surely you must know how much we all LOVE LINKS!!!

It's really easy once you do it a couple times.
The linky fairy is here and the links aren't transferring for her. She's seeing extra spaces in some of the addresses, but they still aren't getting there.

I'm so late in getting to read this very informative thread! What a lot of helpful ideas are here!
I can't believe *I* have a picture book no one has mentioned!
It's a great picture book on St. Francis and we love it - St. Francis and the Proud Crow. Lovely illustrations and introduces the idea of the value of freedom and humility. Check your library!

I thought I'd share what I did for lunch today while the kids were getting their PE activity (chasing the dog around the neighbor hood when it got out of the fence....)
I put an empty chair next to each of their places. When they came in they kept asking, Who is eating lunch with us? The counted the chairs over and over and went through the families we know to see if it was the right number of chairs....it was too fun.
So who came for lunch? Our guardian angels! We had a nice discussion about angels. We discussed how each of their angels had spent nine months with me while they were in the womb...and how much I like having "two guardian angels" when I am pregnant!

Just adding the feast of Our Lady of the Pillar here as well. It is on the 12th of October.
It is a very special appartion of Our Lady because she actually bilocated rather than decend from heaven, as was still alive.
I think it is an important feast for Americans, particularly the southern and western part of the USA because of the strong Spanish influence.
St James had gone to Spain to convert them but was failing miserably and it was in a moment of prayer and despondency that Our Lady bilocated and presented him with a wooden statue of madonna and child on a jasper pillar. Our Lady predicted the chapel (now a beautiful basilica) would stand till the end of time.
Then also something incredible happened in the 1600's a young devotee who had one leg amutated, had the leg miraculously restored to him, it is one of the church's best documented miracles, which makes it even more incredible/irrefutable.
I blogged about the miracle on the feast last year sharing a fantastic 6 page article with coloured pictures and photos, they can be easily read online or printed up. This would be a great read-aloud for children over 7.
This same magazine that wrote about the miracle then published a trauma surgeon's thoughts on the miracle, to further prove it's authenticity..facinating reading.
Kathryn in the UK also wrote a blog posting about Our Lady of the Pillar.

Also it is the big Fatima day in October, Oct 13. The day of the miracle. So the little children could watch The Day the Sun Danced.
And maybe you could have a movie night with the whole family watching thoroughly enjoyable and moving hollywood version of The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima.
Does anyone know of any Fatima crafts at all?
