Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm looking for a prayer book that has a very comprehensive collection of prayers for me. I like to pray prayers that are alreay out there since I'm really new to praying as often as I have been this past year or so. Sometimes I feel so awkward and would feel better having it down on paper to read. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I also know that you can get prayers off the internet, but I would like something I can get in a book form.

Sorry, I don't know of one. But I thought I'd reply because I am interested too.

Little Flower Family Apostolate had a booklet of prayers ("Catholic Family Prayer Book") that was small but contained the basics. I can't find it on their site so wonder if it is no longer available. There is a new book called "Do You Say Your Prayers Well, Dear?" which looks like it might replace the other.

Pocket Book of Catholic Prayers is another good collection.

Dear KC,

You can try The Pieta prayer book (you can find the text of it somewhere online if you want to preview it) or buy the little book for $3 from Leaflet Online. I also like the little paper prayer books from various religious orders that they send in the mail, and I like the little paper prayer books in the Leaflet Missal catalog; they are about $1 each and have a wide variety of short prayers.

Love,

Dear KC,
I carry a copy of Josemaria Escriva's The Way in my purse.

Wonderful source of spiritual gleanings to read in snatches throughout the day.

Two I use and most highly recommend. All the prayers are from traditional and/or approved sources and would really be helpful for converts. But I'm a cradle Catholic and I love them for myself!

Father Hardon's Catholic Prayer Book and

Handbook of Prayers by James Socias. This one was published by Scepter Publishers, but I can't find it on their website.

These are helpful especially when you feel you need some set words for prayers, or having a dry spell or easily distracted....but you're still praying with the Church.
