Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Are you going to the shrine of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton? We might! I know my kiddos would love to see your children again .

Yes, that's the plan. Steve needs to be at Ft. Meade (again) during that week. Martine's been asking when we can see you guys, too!

So is it during the week or the weekend? I just love making a pilgrimage up there. It's just a little piece of heaven. Have you been there before, Nancy?

The highlight is of course the Seton Shrine. They have a nice tour, the church and grounds are gorgeous. They sold their academy to FEMA some years ago, so the National Fire Academy is now next door to the Shrine. Maybe a tour there, too?

There are other places to see besides the Seton Shrine, including St. Anthony Shrine Parish
The Grotto
St. Joseph's parish. The cemetery has some Seton family graves.

I used to be involved with Seton School in Manassas, which makes a school pilgrimage every year to Emmitsburg. Since I had several siblings in the school for years, we went almost every year. The sisters don't allow picnics on their grounds, unfortunately. I don't know what the weather will be like by November, but right next to the grounds in the city is a little park with a baseball field and a small pavilion. We have reserved it for the day for our pilgrimages and picnics in the past. I can dig up the info if you need that.

But a restaurant I've been to regularly...not super cheap but good food and nice atmosphere and right near the Shrine is Carriage House Inn. You can make reservations if need be. Lunch and dinner included. Hey, if you get a huge 4RealLearning group we could rent the upstairs room .

But I was reading over the restaurant directory and liked the sound of Fairfield Inn. I'm going to rope dh into going someday!

Do you need a romantic getaway? Before we had Gregory, we went to a B&B (twice!) in Taneytown, MD called The Antrim 1844. It's family friendly, but a bit expensive. But it has a GREAT wine cellar if you and dh are into wines at all. The dinner alone at their restaurant is memorable.

Emmitsburg also had a large antique mall...

That's all my ramblings....

Nancy,
I am a frequent visitor to Emmitsburg as my aunt lives in Fairfield. We are headed there next weekend as a matter of fact. Definitely visit the grotto which is on or behind Mt. St. Mary's College. There's also a one room schoolhouse that gives tours to school children I think it's called Mudd College. This is not in Emmitsburg but it must be somewhere in the vicinity. My niece (a student at Mother Seton) took a field trip there last year. You might want to look into that. Have fun.
