Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The topic of spiritual communion for children was brought up in this thread connected with the practice of children receiving a blessing while their parents receive Holy Communion. I found this article that describes the challenge and a possible solution.

Love,

Quote:

Usually the children in line will look up expectantly at the person distributing holy Communion. The minister then responds by doing one of several things: He or she may pat the child's head, or touch the head in a sign of blessing, or mark the child's forehead with a sign of the cross. As warm and well intentioned as the gesture may be, in the context of the liturgy, the Communion procession really isn't the time for a blessing of children or adults who are unable to receive Communion.

This was exactly my friend's concern and she's more knowledgable than I am.

This is SUCH a helpful article. Thank you for passing on to us, Angie.

That is a beautiful article.

Related question: at our parish, there are lots of priests (hooray!). So they obviously *can* give a real blessing (unlike eucharistic ministers). Is this nevertheless not in line with the rubrics?
