Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been reading _The Catholic Homeschool Companion_ by Maureen Wittmann and Rachel Mackson and I found the article "Art Appreciation: Recognizing Symbolism in Religious Art" to be quite interesting. Has anyone else read this? What do you think?
I thought I would give it a try this year with my 12 yo ds who doesn't care much for picture study. I know he is interested in symbolism since we did a project with the book Saints, Signs and Symbols last year. Just wondering what you all think.

I haven't read the article you mentioned; but, we have liked using Artfully Teaching the Faith by Steve Kellmeyer, which deals with symbolism in specific pieces of religious art.

If you have some of the early Sophia Press catalogues, they discussed this with full color pictures in their catalogue. I had been saving mine for this purpose, but they were accidently thrown out and of course, unavailable from Sophia Press as they no longer do this and no longer have full color catalogues.
