Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter Elizabeth is due on Christmas Day with her third baby. She has been having a lot of contractions and they seem to be getting more regular and stronger. She is on her way to the local hospital (which doesn't have l&d!) to see if she needs to be transported to ABQ.

Please pray that it is false labor or that the baby is healthy if born now 34w 3d.

Also if it is not false labor I will be driving 2 hours to Alamogordo to pick up her DH and drive him 4 hours to ABQ! We could use a few added prayers for safe travel if we need to make the drive tonight.

Thank you!

Blessings,
Krisann

Praying for you all. My nephew was born at 35 weeks, after a very difficult pregnancy, and he was just perfectly healthy. No bad effects from being a bit early.

They gave her four different shots, one was terbutaline, one was betamethasone, one was some kind of antibiotic, and I don't know what the other was. They also gave her IV fluids.

Elizabeth has to go get another betameth shot in the morning, another tomorrow night, and one more the next morning. They want to monitor her blood pressure too because it was up tonight (155/85), yesterday it was 120/75. Also the baby's heart rate is good at 140 but there is not much variability; even with a lot of movement it is staying in the 140's.

The doctor wanted her to stay overnight but there is no one close who can watch Auston in the morning. James (her DH) and I decided to wait before rushing up there because it could be days or weeks before the baby comes. He needs to work as long as possible unless the birth is imminent.      He REALLY wants to go home though.    His company may fly him home in the morning but they won't fly at night. He is usually out 10 days and home for 4 and is not due home until the 21st.

The doctors are also going to do an ultrasound in the morning because they think the baby is a little small for gestational age. This is a different hospital/doctor who doesn't have access to all her records so I think he/she is just being overly cautious - which is not necessarily a bad thing. Hopefully this doctor won't decide to do a ton of intervention at this point. Elizabeth still wants to deliver in ABQ with her midwife.

Thanks again for all your prayers!

Blessings,
Krisann

I'll pray for her... I had my twins at 35 wks, 4 days, and they were both fine -- no NICU stay at all! I know many mothers of twins who had their babies at 34 wks, and things turned out ok. But it's scary when you're in that situation!!!

I had this with my first when I went into labor at 33 weeks. That shot in the bum is a kicker--the one the next day is even worse because you know fully what's about to happen ! It was very effective, though, and they sent me home on bedrest with "terbs" every four hours around the clock for four weeks until they determined it'd be okay to deliver. However, it was almost a week later when labor kicked back in!

Assuming they send her home on the terbs she's going to need some help. I didn't have any other children at home, but I could barely take care of myself! The meds make you very shakey and it's a bit unnerving.

Elizabeth and her growing family will be in prayers!

Praying, Krisann. I had that betameth shot for my son, too, to prepare his lungs...the shot is quite uncomfortable. And if you peek at the needle you'll know why!

Elizabeth said the shots last night were not too bad but the one this morning made her jump, she thinks the nurse hit a nerve or something. She actually jumped far enough to pull the needle out!

The nurse had to get a new syringe and put it in the other side. Elizabeth said the second attempt didn't hurt at all so the nurse must have hit something or maybe it was still sore from last night.

The ultrasound looked good this morning so I think they are just going to give her the other two doses and see what happens.

James borrowed a company vehicle and drove up early this morning so he is home with her now.

Thanks for your prayers!

Blessings,
Krisann
