What are your favorite MUST SEE places in and around the Capital?

I LOVE the National Gallery of Art, the Basilica, Arlington Cemetery, and the National Museums of History, and of Natural History.

Only one of my kids has been to DC, TWICE (thanks, Mary Chris!)........I have also been twice. This time, we are blessed to go as a family of eight! What are the best logistics of driving/parking/pub transportation?

Any other advice you have to share from your experiences?

Chari, I would also include the Franciscan Monastery

It's really beautiful. Free entrance, there are tours, parking is easy if you're in a car, about a 15 minute walk from the metro.

Looks like tours are hourly (I've been on one, very interesting), today (Sat) confessions are hourly. Gift shop.

You can eat a picnic lunch on the grounds.

And if my memory serves me well (?), it's not far from Catholic U and the Basilica.

Very close Tami and close to the JPII Cultural Center too.

Chinatown's not far either. I can post rstaurant recs if you like.
