Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am driving through Missouri/Indiana on my cross country trip in Spring. I am driving on I-70.

Is there anyone can tell me if there is anything special to see or do near I-70? an hour off the highway is okay, too.

Anyone live in Missouri? Indiana? Have some advice?

Talk fast! We only have one day!

Thanks,

Chari-
Off the top of my head, there is a lot of historic stuff in Independence, MO (Kansas City suburb on I-70): Truman Presidential Library and National Frontier Trails Museum are a couple of things of interest. Also, in downtown KC, there is the steamship Arabia museum and the World War I Liberty Memorial and historic Union Station

That should keep you busy for a day or two.

Chari, a few ideas this morning,

The Katy Trail State Park runs from St Louis to KC and is lovely for walking.

I-70 does run through Columbia MO where MU is located. There is tons of stuff to do there! On the campus itself there is
Museum of Art & Archaeology (excellent)
Museum of Anthropology (excellent again)
Waterfowl & Game Bird Collection at the School of Natural Resources Exhibits
The Herbarium (The Herbarium was founded in 1856, making it the oldest public institutional herbarium west of the Mississippi River. )
One of the buildings burned down in a fire caused by the first electric light bulb west of the Mississippi leaving only 6 Ionic columns standing in Francis Quadrangle.
The original tombstone and a bronze statue of Thomas Jefferson.
Entomology Museum
Buck's Ice Cream (Behind the cheery store front is an integrated research, teaching and service oriented laboratory. There is even an Arbuckle Professor for Ice Cream Research! )
Arrange a tour or print your own map of the University.

Jefferson City and St. Louis are both neat places too.
Especially the St Louis Art Museum - Free! and the Zoo - Free! All located in Forest Park, the site of the World's Fair (think Judy Garland singing Meet Me in St Louis)

Hope that helps with the planning, Chari!

Indianapolis has a great state park downtown, containing the Zoo, minor league baseball field, paddle boat and pedal buggy rentals and the Indiana State Museum.

Their Children's Museum (a bit up the road) is awesome. It's generally rated one of the top children's museums in the USA. Well worth a stop!

I know a great German restaurant, too...

I do love to travel!

The free art museum is fabulous! One of the best I've been too, really. The Monet Water Lilies were there the last time I visited, I had no idea they were so very, very large! But the neatest thing at the zoo is alot of the buildings were either built for the World's Fair or reflect the time period they were built in very well. Check out these two posters - don't you want to wear a big hat and white dress to see the crocs?
