I am sure this has come up before, but...
My oldest daughter will be 11 in two weeks. She is a bit of a tomboy, likes to wear sweats and a t-shirt unless we are going somewhere that requires a little more care. At the same time, she is very aware of how she looks when we do go out, wants to wear earrings (clip-ons), makes sure her hair is brushed well, even wants shimmery lip balm! What a confusing age!
I am trying desparately to find her appropriate clothing for Mass. She cries every week over what to wear. She had one nice black skirt from Old Navy that she outgrew. She doesn't like to wear her Bonnie Jean dress, I think she feels too old for it. She won't wear the Lands' End type dresses that her little sisters wear. Basically, I need casual, dressy clothes that are modest.
I have tried searching google for some sites with appropriate clothing.
What are your daughters that age wearing? Where do you shop? Would it work to buy petite clothing in small sizes for her? She is 4'10". We rarely get the chance to go to a store alone, without the younger kids, so I try to shop online.

my oldest is just turning 10 and is fairly easy going yet.. but what seems to work best is seperates.. skirts and tops.. you can get one or two basic skirts and then several tops and she'll have lots of choices.. seems easier to find things that way too.
Have you checked The Children's Place or Old Navy
I don't like much of what they have.. but I've also found some good things.. like ankle length fleece skirts.. or nice sweaters..

My niece liked to wear long, simple black jersey skirts with trendy (but modest) tops at that age. It was very cute.

Hanna Anderson might be another good choice.
And I ditto the separates idea.

Oh, I feel for you. I am now on my fourth 11 yo daughter. For church she really likes the tiered skirts and shirts or blouses that you can buy to go with them. We usually make them or find them at Kohl's. We wear tights, not stockings, so they are more comfortable, and shrugs or ponchos over everything, if it is an early Mass. Good luck!

Thanks, I am checking out Kohls right now! I did buy a long denim skirt from Old Navy for her, but she doesn't think anything goes with it! 
She hates tights or stockings. Today, I gave her a pair of my knee-high hose and she was happy. She is growing so fast, and we can't keep up. Her feet are even bigger than mine!

My dds favorite outfit is a long black knit skirt from cwdkids. They are on sale now really cheap.

My very tall 10 yr old wears the knit skirts from cwdkids all the time. She saves the black one for Mass and wears pink and the light blue around the house with tshirts. They wash up nicely and since I wear a similar style from Lands End, I don't think she sees them as babyish. I think my dd is about to say goodbye to the knit dresses from HA or LE, too. I also snag denim or tiered skirts whenever I see them.

Khaki skirts (skorts if we can find them) are popular here, but not as popular as the long tiered skirts that Cindy mentioned. They are very comfy too! Cotton dresses are good as they are nice and cool and not too clingy like the Hanna Anderson and other knit styled dresses.
Regarding the Children's Place, when they are good, they are very, very good. But when they are bad...  Seriously! I bought all my little flower girl dresses there one year and Marianna is still wearing the last one after being passed through all my sisters. Marianna used to wear all their denim skirts that were nice and long and usually sparkly too! But this past Fall I visited the store and didn't find a thing to buy! It was all too, too short. But the good stuff lasts really well and is (was) very nicely made.

This is a toughy. I have 16, 14, 13 and 11 year old ddaughters. I am always on the lookout for clothes, mostly catalogs and online. Occasionally I will find things in the store. A couple of weeks ago, my 14 yr. old dd found some very cute, knee length cotton skirts for Spring at Target. We grabbed three in all the colors they offered. Sometimes I have luck at www.delias.com. A lot of there stuff is not appropriate for my standards, but some of it is. Once in awhile they have a pretty dress or two. Good luck!

My daughter turned 12 in November, and she is about 5'5 and 120 lbs. . .her shoe size is a woman's 9. So, we blew past the cute little girl clothes quite a while ago!
I've found some nice long skirts for her at Old Navy online (buying the woman's 6-8). She wears leggings/long underwear underneath when it is very cold here (ie, all the time). My sister picked her up some expensive sweaters for Christmas at a Susan Bristol sale -- they were eliminating the women's petite line. The petite sweaters fit her perfectly. These are great for Mass. She has a high pair of winter boots, so wears boot socks over the leggings -- toasty warm, and no one can see her legs anyway, the skirts are so long!
For spring, I'll be sewing some long skirts for both of us. I found a nice pattern this weekend that can make a long, even hem skirt or several variations, such as the handkerchief hem (which I love - being extremely tall, it's always good to add visual variety to the hem of a long skirt). I'll top these off with some inexpensive tees and blouses from Blair (very compy and wear well).
We found two pairs of clip-on earrings for my daughter at a KMart 70% off jewelry sale. She loves them!
