Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've about made up my mind to switch back to blogspot.
It's mostly a financial decision. I rather be spending my hard earnings on books rather than a blog.

I used blogspot in 2005 and I really liked it. I had no problems with it.

Then I switched with everybody else to typepad.com. And I love it too.

I've spent a year agonizing. When the year rolled around to renew my yearly payment I gulped. I just spent that much on online book orders.

I surfed around and saw many outstanding blogspot blogs as well as some very professional authors still using it.

This is just about me and mine. I love Typepad. I really do. But I'm changing back to blogspot anyway.

I'll continue with typepad until I get my new blog the way I want it.

My question is...how does one transfer their typepad posts to the blogspot blog? Any quick clicky wand-thingy I can wave real quicky and change it real easy-like.

Dear Cay, I don't know how to help you with the switch (I'm sure someone else will) but I just wanted to say I will follow you *wherever* you take your blog!

Cay, I don't know about blogspot but I just transferred my few TypePad posts, after my trial period with them ended, to Wordpress. It was very easy and quick. I did have to manually load all my pictures after TypePad deleted my blog (since the links were now broken), but everything else transferred without a glitch.

Louise, you originally had a Blogspirit. Did you have a trick to move the posts to Typepad? I need to get a new blog, too. I'm looking at Wordpress, but can't see a way to export from Blogspirit. Is it *gulp* not possible?

Cay,

Unfortunately there is no easy option as far as I can tell. I still have my blogger site so I checked around, including on the help forum and it seems the only way to transfer your Typepad posts into Blogger it to cut and paste them by hand.

But you can easily do it to Wordpress...pretty much like waving a wand.

I'm a big Wordpress fan myself.

Hi Cay, I don't think Blogger/Blogspot has an importing tool (or at least I don't see it on any of mine, I still have several on Blogger that I need to move/delete) which means you'll have to copy-paste each post that you want to import from Typepad -- it can be a pain (but doable with a good attitude ).

In case you're still shopping around, wordpress.com is free, importing is a breeze (even my 10 year old can do it) and you can fiddle with your template, change your sidebar using widgets, etc.

If you've got your heart set on Blogger, that's great, esp. with their new themes and widget-style templating. Just wanted to throw .02 cents in from someone who's tried 3 systems (Blogger, MT and Wordpress) -- Wordpress just made everything so easy for me, so I'm hooked and would recommend it to anyone.

If you decide on anything else other than Wordpress, you may want to contact Typepad for support on exporting entries -- may make the move easier.

Jenn, I haven't tried to export my posts from Blogspirit. I figured that since they aren't deleting my blog (I had a free subscription), just linking it from my new blog on Worpress will do for me.

BTW after making some search on TypePad Q&A about disk space, I found out that TypePad is letting is clients go over their limits for now but will eventually charge a fee! It is just a matter of time. They suggest you look at the amount of memory you have used so far to see if this will affect you.

I really like Wordpress so far. And if needed you can buy extra disk space for a reasonnable price.

Blessings,

This importing tool (or lack of) will be the Achilles' heel in my plans.

I have been impressed with Wordpress time and time again and even set up an account with them awhile back. I'm not sure why I never carried through with them. Possibly because I couldn't figure out how to transfer my banner. I like having a nice banner.

Thank you, all. I believe I'll look into Wordpress again. I don't know when I'll make the transition. We are leaving soon on vacation then there is a month of writing then Easter and family camping trip. Right now I'm doing Typepad by the month. It might take me another year to transfer.

I hope I have the mind of a 10 year old and can figure out the transfer. Otherwise, I'll be hollering anew.

Cay, for a mere $15 you can upgrade to a custom CSS to customize any banner.

Louise, is that per month? That's what typepad cost.

re the wordpress banner -- if you don't mess with the css,   it's still free, e.g., you can change header images, sidebar content and sometimes color, just depends on which template you pick -- some of them are more customizable than others. you'll have to click to find out though because it won't tell you in the description. you only have to pay if you change the CSS so it's completely your styling.

No it's not a monthly fee, it's a one time charge to upgrade to custom CSS. In my opinion it's definitely worth it.

And of course you know Cay - we can help you.

I thought it was a yearly charge. If it's one time then that's great.

Cay, mine is a Wordpress blog and you had asked about my custom banner before. As long as you choose one of the templates that allows you to customize the banner then you can do it for free. It's just that you are limited to the format of those choices. So for more choices the upgrade sounds like it would work well for you.

It's a one time cost.

As Stef mentioned, you can change your template quite a bit for free, but if you want a large picture (like the one I have on Blogspirit and the one you have on TypePad) you will have to mess with the CSS. I would like to try this whenever I have time, but for now if you look at my blog you will see that with the available customization, I had to crop my picture extensively.

Oh, I'm planning on that.

I was able to get into the original acct. I started and tried this AM to transfer my typepad posts but it isn't responding. I typed in my typepad address but it's wanting me to enter a folder?

How do I do that?

Cay,

You need to export your posts from TypePad first. I don't have a Typepad account so I can't give you the specifics but the option is there somewhere.

Save that file on your computer and then upload that file to Wordpress.

Okay, so far so good only...

It exported my Jan.'06-May'06 archives and that's all.
How do I get the June'06-Feb.'07 archives to transfer over?

I must not be doing something right.

I have an old Wordpress account and I didn't even remember it. I opened it in September of 2006 but never used it because I couldn't figure it out. I don't know why I didn't remember it when I was blog shopping a month ago.

I like my Grace Like Rain blog, but I am having to switch cell phone plans and it is going up $15.00 a month and so I've kind of been considering changing too but I love the ease of Typepad! The Word press just seemed so confusing to me.

Anywhoo... the word press one was Liberty in Christ and I guess I'll leave it open and talk with dh about it... with phone plans increasing maybe he would rather I switch over to that one instead.
