Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus....

We got to meet some of them today at Mass!! Including their Mother Superior. What a treat it was for our entire family. (we live in a section of the Bible belt and Sisters in full habit are unusual to say the least around here!) Just as Mass was starting today 3 Sisters walked in-our kids were grinning like crazy.

Our dd (9) feels she is being called to the religious life and these wonderful Sisters spent a good bit of time after Mass speaking with her and encouraging her. Gave her advice of what to do if she seriously feels she is being called and told her that if she wrote to them, they would faithfully write her back. You should have seen her face when she heard that! There was a novice with them and she answered many of my dd's questions and when my dd told her that we had been looking at the Sisters of Life website a few weeks ago, she told her that she too had considered them. As Fr. came out of the little chapel to say hello, he asked if they were passing through or if they were here to start an order in our area-but that was not the case unfortunately.

I just had to share our highlight of our day today!   I think they may be on my list of speakers! They will do a mission on the Divine Mercy which is a special devotion of our priest's- prob. won't be too hard to talk him into that Mission!

Thanks for sharing my excitement Molly. I'm in Va...they were here to visit family and stopped by for daily Mass. Lucky us! Now I see on the card they gave my dd that they are right there with you! Another great thing about Steubenville!

I just remembered Hollee that these sisters have young girls come for weekend retreats. I have a couple of friends who have dd's about your dd age who have spent the weekend there or an overnighter. My oldest dd is going to stay in the spring for a night. I am so excited for her to have this experience. So if you all come up this way you can look into this possibility. I recently heard a priest give a homily about people losing their vocations due to a lack of parental cultivation. Really made me ponder how to encourage and cultivate vocations amongst my brood!

Molly,
the Sisters mentioned that parents sometimes discourage vocations by telling their daughters (sons) to "live a little first" when they tell them they think they have a vocation. Their response to that was to NOT say that and to encourage interaction with as many religious as possible so they can help the children (young people) discern.
How old is your oldest dd? My dd would LOVE to stay for a weekend with them, but she is not in any way "into" spending the night anywhere without us... . She has not even been able to spend the night with her friend right next door. I'm not sure how many more years it will take her. But she would probably love to go visit for a weekend if she could go back to a hotel with us at night.

How exciting for your dd!!    I'd love to hear her impressions afterwards. If you look at their website, they have lots of pictures and show lots of young girls visiting. All with beautiful smiles on their faces!

Dh and I wonder too how to encourage vocations with our guys...any suggestions would be welcome! We have a great priest who is fantastic with our kids...I think that helps. He is always playing around with them....he's really a cutup. Plus we have a couple of seminarians who keep in touch with us...that is nice too. What we lack is Sisters....which is what made yesterday so special!

My dd is 10, I think you shoould come up for the weekend. We have so many orders of sisters here, and they all encourage the girls. We have the TOR's right down the road from us and they host a Saturday retreat for girls int eh spring, we have Carmelites, and many different Franciscans, your dd would love it. Plus you could meet us and hang out in our chaos for a while

As for the boys make sure they are serving the mass, it breeds vocations. Have priest over for dinner asking them to share their joy in the priesthood.

Molly,
I'd LOVE to come up some weekend! I'm going to have to start working on dh to plan a trip there! It would be a blast - and if your chaos is anything like ours- we'd feel right at home!

Yep, our pastor comes for meals...and hanging out...only our oldest ds serves Mass. We need to ask Fr again about allowing him to serve at daily Mass. As it is right now, he is able to serve every Sat. night as there are not any other families who are willing to go to Mass on Sat. night...nor are they willing to have their kids serve and heaven forbid show up for 2 Masses on one weekend! and he is open to a priestly vocation but feels drawn to marriage too...of course there is still loads of time. Our other boys are too young still.

So it sounds as if we are on the right track! Now what to do to make this area one with a higher Catholic population so we can attract orders and Catholic bookstores and all the good stuff!

I'll love to hear what your dd thinks after she goes for the weekend. I can't wait to tell my dd that yours is going! (She's at Church now with some of her brothers cutting their cars for their Cub Scout Pinewood Derby!) She'll go to work on Dad right away to make a road trip!
