Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This may not be the correct place to put this, but I am truly interested in whether any of you listen to her, and your feelings about her and/or her advice. Thanks.

I do not listen to her anymore though we used to quite reguarly.

I usually like her straight forward advice and how she tries to stick to morals. I do not however appreciate her lack of compassion. she is very black and white and from life's many experiences rarely is it so clear cut. Plus Christ was always compassionate in his care of us when we are/were wrong. I feel she should be more compassionate.

I don't listen to her, but I caught a program once when she was adressing an anti-Catholic man. She was very supportive of the Church (and I think she is Jewish, right?) Anyway, she praised JPII and the principles of the Church and pretty much shot down the points the man was making. That I really appreciated. Disagreement doesn't have to be hateful.

I really like her. She actually grew up Catholic and now is Jewish.

I can't listen to her around the children. First of all, most of her callers are bringing up subjects not fit for children. Second of all, Dr Laura is VERY blunt! I appreciate this, many people need to be dealt with to get them through their denial and finger-pointing, etc. I do think she goes to far sometimes and wonder if it is more for shock value than a true desire to reach her callers.

I gave her book on caring for husbands to my sil as a shower gift. I have read parts of some of her other books. Unfortunately, most of the people I would like to give a book to, such as 10 Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives, probably wouldn't appreciate the gift!

Nope. Not Jewish any more. Article Here Apparently she left the Jewish faith in 2003.

Personally, some of what she says has merit - but the manner in which she says it is totally lacking in compassion. I also believe that she wallows in vanity and pride. I don't like to listen to her.

Edited to add:

She didn't actually "grow up Catholic." Her parents were a mixed marriage (actually quite common in NY) where her father was a non-practicing Jew and her mother was a non-practicing Catholic of Italian heritage.

I think her conversion to conservative Judaism, then to Orthodox Judaism, then leaving Judaism and ending up possibly Christian is the very sad result of growing up in a mixed faith household with two non-practicing parents.

This type of reaction to that type of upbringing is not at all unusual and one of the strongest arguments one can make against mixed-faith marriages. The result of which is usually children with no real faith in anything.

Very sad.
