Does anyone here have a good recipe for rice milk? In particular, for a clone of Rice Dream? I have a dairy intolerant boy who's decided that he loves this stuff. Unfortunately, it's quite expensive so I'm looking for a cheaper alternative. Also, I'm hoping to be able to infuse it with some liquid calcium or a calcium/magnesium mix. Any ideas?

Hi Taffy, here's one I haven't tried. I get Rice Dream cheaper when I get it through our co-op/buying club, or I wait for it to go on sale at Wild Oats or other local grocers. Don't know what to do for calcium though, I just got my dd a supplement (chewables) and hoping I feed her enough calcium-rich food (greens, broccoli, sardines) to make up for it.

We do soy milk here, so I can't help with the rice milk. I try to get the Soy Enhanced, but also load up with calcium supplements, as I worry about that, too.

Jenn

I was reading something the other day about soy milk having possible links to cancer sorry.
We have just switched dd to rice milk and then we tried oat milk and she really like that. I've also been thinking about finding a receipe for oat milk, I though it may be easier than rice to make.

Calcium is in lots of green vegetables so I don't really worry there.

Thanks everyone! That recipe looks good, Stephanie, I'm going to hve to try it...

We have soy intolerance issues here with my oldest who isn't dairy intolerant but refuses milk. He's been using the rice milk on his cereal. Also, I am wary of soy with the boys ever since hearing of hormonal interference? Can't remember specifics, just know that we stay away from it now...

I've never heard of oat milk - I'm going to have to look into it. Rice milk seems so devoid of nutrition, maybe the oats would have more? Hmmm...

We have soy and dairy allergies with my dd, so we are a rice milk family. Rice Dream really is expensive, but Whole Foods has their own 365 brand version that my kids like for much less, with 250 mg calcium per cup. Otherwise, not much nutrition in it. On Amazon I've seen powdered brands, but they are still quite expensive.
