I know we have addressed this in the past, but do you respond to them (blog comments)? How? In the comment section or do you respond by email? Always? Or just when it's warranted?
What's the proper etiquette?

I wonder this myself, KC. I respond via email sometimes, sometimes in the comment section, and sometimes I mean to respond and time just gets away from me . Then I don't know if it would be silly to respond or not. But I always love to get comments!!!
I know that I don't expect other bloggers to respond to all the comments *I* leave them, but when I do get a response, it's nice .

Editing to say that I generally try to respond ** to a question ** in my comment section as quickly as I can.
My problem is when I visit other blogs and ask a question. Then I forget to check back for the answer. So... for me, it's nice when someone answers me via e-mail or even leaving me a comment with their answer on my blog.

That's how I feel too. I'm just curious how other people do things. I thought since we have so many bloggers now it'd be interesting to see how everyone handles things.

I like a response, but don't *expect* it.
Therefore, I give responses, but don't *require* it of myself.
Much of that is my personality. I prefer an exchange, an interaction.
Very contrary to that I'm going to start another thread.

I respond if a question is asked, or if the comment is particularly thought provoking. But if it is simply a "That's neat" or similar comment, I don't respond. I am, however, thankful and it always makes me smile.
I also do not expect responses to my comments unless I ask a question.
We are all so busy, you know. We do what we can.

Boy this is really different for everyone IMHO, I get both comments and emails so it just depends on the most appropriate medium depending upon the question, but in all honesty I don't think that anyone ever expects a reply to a comment you make. What feels right for you is what you should do

In a perfect world, I'd respond to every comment via the comments box and via e-mail (copy and paste). However, since I only have a limited # of hours in a day, I do what I can. Sometimes I'm able to keep the conversation going for a while, sometimes I just can't.
Pro bloggers will tell you it's just common courtesy, since when you're blogging you're starting a conversation, and if people respond you need to reply as well, but as has been pointed out before, most of us here are not pro-bloggers.
And I think we moms understand each other, that not responding to comments doesn't mean we're ignoring people, just that we have kids and homeschooling, etc. to take care of. So I guess it's all about what YOU want to do with your audience too. Bottom line, it's your blog, do what makes you happy :D
