Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you work with a professional financial advisor? If you do, what do you like about it and what don't you like. Also, would you consider working with a financial advisor within your homeschooling circle?

I've been taking care of our finances since I was first married. I'm considering delegating. On one hand it would be great to know/trust an FA. On the other hand, my dh doesn't see friends as clients and there is part of me that wants to keep my finances private.

Any experience? Advice? Links? Thanks!

Love,

We use a financial advisor through 1st Command (USPA/IRA). Here's their website:
First Command

It has been helpful to have someone who is knowledgeable to advise us about investing, and all the advisors we've had (they have advisors everywhere we've moved) have been positive about tithing and our having a large family. I know that the Wall Street Journal sometimes has articles about how to choose an advisor. You might try looking on their website. Personally, I don't think I'd feel comfortable doing that sort of business with a friend. There's my $.02. Good luck!

Angie:
both dh and i feel VERY strongly about keeping our finances private. My brother is a CFP in San Diego, but we don't use him b/c of privacy issues. I have a few friends who are financial planners and we don't use them either. Everyone feels differently about this, but we just feel like this is a very touchy issue and the less people know about us in this regard the better.

We just started working with a planner about 2 years ago, and it has been such a relief! Not only do we have professional on-going consultation about the "overall picture", we have someone to call about all the silly little things too.

We use Steve Hess at the same organization Wealth Enhancement Group that my mother uses in Minneapolis. We live in Seattle. with e-mail, faxing, etc.....there's really no reason to meet face-to-face anymore; although you have a "rapport" with someone if that's important to you. Most places will schedule a meeting with you once or twice a year to review everything. We do this via telephone.
HTH,
