Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ladies, I know that a lot of you have typepad as your blog host. I have been with homeschoolblogger for quite some time now and I really do like having my blog there, however I have been having big problems viewing other blogs. Pages wont load and if they do it takes forever!

Tell me why you like typepad... what are the pro's? Have any of you switched from homeschoolblogger to typepad?

I love to design and set up my own blog with different backgrounds and graphics. Is this possible with typepad?

Thanks in advance!

Theresa:

I recently started a blog. I don't even remember then name of the first one I tried, but I got frustrated at not being able to make it look the way I wanted it to. I signed up for the free month trial period with Typepad and I love it. There are three different levels, so depending on what you want to do with your blog (and how much you want to spend) you have a lot of options. The middle-of-the-road choice is a good price, and you can have different backgrounds and graphics.

And where in MN are you?????

I'm in Winthrop. You?

I'm looking at the options now. I love to play with the html codes and get my blog to look the way I like it but I don't have lots of money to spend either.

North of Milaca.

I rationalized the expense by thinking of all the family we have that are scattered everywhere. This is a good way for all of them to keep up on what we are doing. No way could I try to send emails with pictures!!

Theresa, I use Typepad. I have the Pro account with which I can upload pictures and scans for my banner. I can't remember if you can do that with the Basic account, but I don't think so. There's a thread around here about creating banners - I will see if I can find it for you.

As far as colors go, recently Jennifer (J.Anne) linked me to this site which gives you the HTML code for *all kinds* of hues and shades. (Believe me, you can lose hours of your day playing around on this site. ) I used it to match the blue in my floral banner.

I have not used any service but Typepad so I can't help you there. I will say I love it; it is very easy to use and I like the way the pages look.

P.S. Here's that banner thread.

Typepad has a lot of perks, but both Blogger (esp the new beta) and wordpress.com are good, solid platforms. On Blogger you can tinker with code to your heart's content. Two years ago, when I started mine, Typepad was the best option for me because my Mac got huffy about talking to Blogger. But nowadays I would probably go w/ Blogger Beta, if I were starting fresh.

That being said, I am quite happy w/ Typepad and do love the ease w/ which I can create other blogs to meet my family's needs. And the Typelists feature is beautifully easy.

But to tinker with the CSS on a Typepad blog, you have to have the Pro level account.

Oh, and I forgot homeschooljournal.net. That's another free host, and I think you can customize the templates there?

I'd been using homeschoolblogger since March, but left when they did their recent upgrades. When they disabled Javascript it really irritated me, mostly because they didn't tell us before they were going to do it. But that's water under the bridge and I'm now using Typepad. It's different than HSB and took some time to get used to. I haven't completely figured out how to customize my blog template like I could at HSB. But i'll figure it out. My favorite feature of typepad is that you can upload your pictures right on the site, no more having to use photobucket.

I've used Blogger and Typepad. To me, Typepad is easier and has more "features" (typelists being my favorite). However, at the lower two levels, you don't have access to the HTML code, so design is limited to banners and colors. And also, I think Blogger is better now than when I began, so I can't address that.

I have the plus account for typepad and signed up for the 30 day free trial... I'm not yet finding it easy but I suppose that may come with time.

I love the look of my hsb blog and will miss not having the html codes if I make the switch for good.

I have another question for Typepad users I'm tagging on this thread.

Is there a capability of just creating static pages in HTML within Typepad? This is what I was thinking: I have a cooking blog, but finding the recipes is difficult, so I wanted to create a page that had all the recipes listed, organized by type, and then links to a page with the recipe only, and link to the blog entry, and somehow making another page that's printable.

That's only one idea. Problem with blogs is they become so disorganized.

Not possible? Too hard?

I'm not sure Jenn. I'm still learning the ropes with Typepad but hopefully someone with more experience will come along and let you know.

I haven't read through this thread but I recently noticed at KC's blog that Typepad allows you to respond to comments via email.
I don't know if all the providers have that service. I thought that was a neat feature.

I came back to Typepad this week and I can't seem to figure out how to change my CSS anymore. I should have never deleted all of my blogging templates that I had created but I did and now I need to start from scratch. I thought I would be able to find the CSS coding and just start over but I can not find my way through the new Typepad.

Can anyone help me?

What made you come back to Typepad, Theresa?

Typepad has always been my first choice and I was gifted some money for Christmas and this is how I would like to use it. I pretty much gave up blogging this last summer because I didn't have the time. I enjoy the ease of Typepad but apparently they have done some restructuring and I can't seem to figure anything out. all I'm looking for is the CSS code for one of the templates so that I can customize it the way I want. I'm not understanding the Advanced Template stuff.
