Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Out of curiousity, how do those of you with blogs decide what to post?

Lately I find myself going through my day with all sorts of ideas and then shooting them down almost as soon as I get them: "No, that's boring. No, no one will want to read about that." Etc., etc.

Anyway, just wondering if some of you might share your criteria for what is "blogworthy".

Number one priority for me: writing down any funny or memorable moments with my children. I use the blog as a place to record the little sayings or adventures I know we'll all enjoy reading later. I think of my blog as a gift for my children when they are grown. (And truly, my Kate loves to read it now. She'll explore the archives and read her favorite stories over and over again, like her sisters' Abbott and Costello routine.

2nd priority for me: sharing resources and links I think might be of use to other people.

On the Lilting House blog, where I am expected to post mostly about homeschooling (also special-needs children), I am finding that what people are most interested in is meaty discussion of the hows and whys.

Your blog is lovely, Angela, and always interesting!

Yes, Angela, I was about to say that you seem to be doing a very good job of keeping things interesting and posting what is "blogworthy." (Right you are, Lissa.)

When I began Cottage Blessings, my stated primary goal was that I express gratitude for each and every moment of our family's life together. The theme of gratitude naturally sent the blog in the direction of being a journal of Catholic Family Life, and 95% of the posts are about our domestic church.

If I were to write a list of my favorite types of posts to write, it would be:

1. Reflections on the Faith as it relates to our family;

2. Projects and activiities for living the liturgical year; and

3. Funny stories about my children I might not otherwise get to record.

One thing I would say is, if it is interesting to you, it is probably interesting to other Catholic homeschooling mothers. I try not to worry about being too polished or exciting and write the things we love. With all this group has in common, the things we love are usually embraced and shared by others.

The other thing that helps me to avoid writer's block is knowing that the audience (mostly 4Real moms) is so charitable and encouraging. The mothers who read Cottage Blessings don't expect anything great--they just want to pay a visit and say "hi."

I blog about whatever happens to be on my mind that day. I don't try to worry about no one caring about it - some posts will appeal some people but not others. Sometimes something will happen that just begs to be blogged about - my dh calls it blog fodder. I don't have one specific theme, it's just about my life as it happens, the good, the sad and the funny. Hey, that's a good tag line!

We're a military family and live across the country from our entire family. I just post about our family life. Very boring I'm sure for anyone other than extended family or friends.

I initially started our blog as a follow-up of our adoption blog. That blog was expiring and I wanted a place for far away family and friends to still feel a part of our world. Especially with our new daughter whom nobody has seen yet!

I'll probably journal more about daily life and ideas in the near future but for now I'm just getting used to an online journal. And we're in the process of moving (TODAY in fact! ).

Oh dear, well, I think I post about it *all* and then worry if it was interesting later! (For instance, I blog about squirrels WAY too much, but I just can't help it. )

I guess my main blogging subjects are my family and our experiences - in learning and faith, what we're reading and studying. I love to chronicle family get-togethers. Once in a while I like to blog about housekeeping stuff like organizing and cleaning.

I started my blog as a creative outlet as well as a place for family and friends to get a better understanding of our homeschooling days. At times I've wondered what people want to read, but for the most part I just post whatever tumbles down from this hodgepodge of a brain!

I think if you blog about things that are of interest to you, that will come across to your readers!

Lissa and Alice, thank you for your kind words. I suppose I've just been wondering lately, what's my blog for? Digital scrapbook -- yep, I like that idea. I also like to be helpful to other people, in whatever limited way that I can. And, well, I just like to write. (And take pictures!) Garrett and Katie think it's fun to have their pictures and their work on the Internet, too.

Maybe my "blogger's block" has something to do with early pregnancy hormones/fatigue... usually by the time I can sit down at the computer to write, I'm so tired there's nothing in my head to blog about anyway!
